I have a 3 year old Pekin and she is sick! Raspy voice, eye drainage. She has never bit at me and now she doesn't want me to touch her! She was the best cuddle muffin and now she can barely stand to have me hold her. Any suggestions. I just boarded them for a week and this was going on when I took her in last Friday. I feel like there is nothing I can do to help her. She eats a little but then stops it isn't her normal. She hasn't laid an egg in 2 weeks. The place where I boarded them didn't even want to look at her because they don't have avian experience...strange since the owner has a DUCK that lives at the office! Her neck looks strange like a "L" shape. Any help or advice is appreciated where do I start to get her feeling better???

What's this about an L shape in her neck?

If she had a neck injury then that could explain not eating much because it would be painful. And that might explain why she's not letting you touch her.

Its possible she got an injury from another duck or something else.

You could look at this and try to get her to let you feel around at it, but it may injure her more trying to approach her on it, when she freaks out.

You could try seeing if she'll let you approach her at the end of the day when she's more tired out. But the risk of the injury being more inflamed from freaking out when you approach again is going to be the hardest part about this. And this is because ducks are kind of smart and don't like anything to approach them that could be looking for a dinner.

Do you have other ducks? Or only her?

And does your duck also not let other ducks approach her? (I'm guessing that a non-injry, a poultry bird would let other animals of the same kind get a bit closer than they would for a big injury?)

I'm pretty sure none of my ducks has ever had an L shaped kink in their necks. That worries me.

But when ducks mate you can see the male ducks biting their necks while standing on their backs. (Wonder if this was the cause?)

I have a male and he is pretty crazy about mating with her every chance he gets. I try to separate them and for bed they sleep in their own cage. Her neck is just strange. It looks like an upside down L. Sometimes it doesn't looks that way but maybe its that she cant hold her neck up I'm not sure. It just makes me so sad that she went from cuddling for hours to having none of it.

I have seen several ducks with the type of deformity you're describing, would you mind posting a few pictures of her, or a video?
I will first thing in the morning. She went to the vet and they gave her extra pain meds so she went to bed early. I'm sure she will wake up around midnight. She is so sad. I'm sad!

This has been going on a week. She was so laid-back so never got upset or even nipped at me. Now when I hold her to calm her down I can only hold her a certain way and she seems to hate to see my hands. When I hold a water bowl up to her she nips at my thumb if it's anywhere in view
