I've been adding Volkman brand parrotlet seed mix which contains: Safflower Seed, White Proso Millet, Oat Groats, Buckwheat, Small Crack Corn, Black Oil Sunflower, Canary Grass Seed, Sunflower Chips, Fruit Blend, Peanut Dices, Vitamized Oat Groats, Fruit Mix (Banana Chips, Raisens, Pineapple, Papaya, Coconut), Carrot Dices, Hemp Seed, Green and Red Bell Pepper Dices, Spinach Flakes, and Orange Oil (Vitamin C used as a natural preservative) because I always have it here for my parrotlet & Deryban parakeet.
Is all that okay for my bobbies?
I have always made a mix of seeds for my Bobs which consists of a "Harvest Fruit and Nut" mix (very similar to your mix here) for Parakeets and Cockatiels. Then I add some Parakeet Molting and Conditioner food, sunflower chips, finch/millet seed mix and chicken scratch. I offer this to them along with their gamebird food and they really seem to thrive on it. Gives them something other than processed food to eat, something more natural to their diet. Their feathers really shine all year round. They also love apple pieces, peach pieces, snap peas in the pod, greens, dried or live crickets or meal worms and hard boiled eggs. Get creative with the food, you will be surprised what things they will eat once they try them.
B-E-A-utiful! That sounds wonderful. I was really curious about fresh foods, too! I really want to spoil these birds because they give me so much joy to care for & observe.
