I also have Blue Orpingtons. Hopefully, you will get what you want from MPC, as I know many others have.

Good luck!

I ordered the 25 EE pullet special from MPC back in August, I recieved 26 chicks and 14 weeks later all 26 are in my coop and healthy. I never had a case of pasty butt. It was a great experience.

With that being said, MPC is basically a store front not a hatchery themselves. Their chicks ship from another place and are all still hatchery stock. If you want pure bred chickens that are better than pet quality you need to find a breeder.

I haven't ordered hatching eggs from them and I never will. I think their prices are a little to high for eggs plus their shipping.

I'm glad to hear that you received quality birds in your order. At least the birds they sent me did turn out to be pullets, but that seems to be the only thing they got right.

I love the blue coloring of two of the girls I got, but I'm afraid they don't really look like Andalusians are supposed to, at this stage of development. I guess I should take some new pictures and see what other BYCers think of them, to be more sure. The little "red" chick is still a mystery, as well. I had been hoping she'd be tufted or bearded, but no such luck there. I guess I'll be able to tell more when I examine each of the new girl's eggs, to check for color.

I was much more disappointed by MPCs customer service than with their quality control issues. It's one thing to screw up an order... but something else entirely to defend it with outright BS. I'm willing to accept an honest mistake during a busy time of the year, but to be lied to or treated like I'm an idiot... well, that's just insulting! That's how I feel, anyway.

I ordered from mpc early this past summer because they had a minimum of 3 birds. Anyway I ordered 3 pullets and got 2 roos and 1 pullet. I e-mailed them. They asked for pics which I sent. They agreed that I def had 2 cockerels. So they offered me 2 free chicks of my choosing and free shipping. I thought they were very professional and more than generous to replace my birds and offer free shipping which is the bulk of the cost when you order just 3 chicks.

I find it interesting that they don't show pics of their birds for a small scale hatchery. Also, I am very doubtful that they have lavender (or lavender splash) orps since that variety is still in development in the US amongst breeders. It makes me wonder how many other breed varieties are not really what they say they are.

I doubt too that they have any lavenders. They don't even hatch their own chicks....they come from either Meyer or Welp....can't remember which one it is. Quite a few of the pictures they show on their website I found on a Europeon poultry site....so I would doubt that the pictures are even from the stock they sell.

My Pet Chicken drop ships from Meyer Hatchery. When I ordered, I could get a better price from MPC versus ordering directly from Meyer. I dealt with their customer service twice, once when they wanted to see if I wanted to move up my order date because of a cancellation (I didn't), and once more to add to my order. I was pleased with the customer service I got, and had no problems with my order, it even arrived a day earlier than expected. The fifteen chicks shipped on a Tuesday, and arrived early Wednesday morning, instead of Thursday.

All of the chicks were healthy and happy when they arrived. I lost one at a week and a half due to an accidental drowning, and another at fifteen weeks due to her flying into a neighbor's yard and being eaten by a dog, both things beyond the hatchery's control. One of the chicks got minor pasting on her butt, at about a week old, but it cleared up with little effort. I ordered fifteen pullets and all of the surviving birds are pullets.

Hello to all who have responded and thank you,

After carefull examination of all your answers, I decided to cancel my order with them and go with a private breeder. I hope to get an asnwer from the breeder soon. Does anyone know of any other orpington breeders that may have eggs available to ship to Vermont in January in case that particular breeder cannot? I would really appreciate it as I am new here and still trying to figure out this site.

Thanks,

I ordered chicks from MPC a few months ago and would order from them again. We ordered 25 easter eggers - all 25 arrived safely, but 1 died the next day (couldn't get it to eat or drink) and 1 chick had a deformed leg and we had to put it down (it wasn't splayed leg). I contacted MPC and they very nicely refunded the amount for the 2 chicks. The rest of the chicks thrived, are easily tamed, and I did get a nice variety of EE colors.

They're now 13 weeks old (about 11-12 weeks in the pics)
