"My Pet Chicken" is it trustworthy? *POST YOUR CHICKS FROM MPC!*

I just ordered the leghorn assortment for 25 pullets.... they sent 27 and all were very healthy... still are!

I have always turned to MPC first if hatchery stock is all I need for whatever I'm working on next. They at least USED to be a breeder/hatchery... now people keep saying they get their stock from Meyers. I don't know what to believe about that because when I first heard that I wrote them and email and flat out asked... they said (and I know people can say anything online) that they own all their breeding stock. That was last winter. So I'm just wondering where this whole "they get theirs from Meyers" thing started and how anyone would know. Just curious.

Also. I have got Delawares from MPC YEARS ago and they were much MUCH better quality than the ones (still Dels) I most recently (this last spring) ordered for laying hens. Seems their "Dels" are not so good anymore. On that note... neither is Meyers. Like I said... I'm wondering what's up with that.

Here is a pic of this last batch from MPC...they are now huge and nearly 3 mo. old. They are very healthy and independent, were roosting on the top roost with the roo at less than 2 mo. old...much to the dismay of the older hens, and they move across this land like a well organized infantry unit...foraging for all their worth!

They don't even act like they are part of my flock. They act like they have their own thing goin' on...snotty little brats!

I asked a customer service rep on the phone when I was trying to decide who to buy from the first week of August and she told me they are shipped from Meyer Hatchery. She said they chose them because they felt they were the most humane and because they are a no-kill hatchery that sells their unsold chicks to the local Amish community. It could be a line of baloney for all I know, but if it is, it is a good line.

Love my MPC Chicks. I ordered from them as I wanted sexed small number of chicks. I ordered 4, got what I ordered and they were healthy when they arrived. I agree that they are not SHOW or BREED quality, but I wanted pets with eggs as a bonus, so I have been very pleased with what I got!
Here they are when I received them in early April: (L to R: Buff Orp,Patridge Cochin, Blue Cochin, Light Brahma)

See, now isn't that weird that you and I got two different answers!?! I emailed them about a year ago... maybe in that time they changed? Idunno. (as the kids would type) I do know their quality has slipped within the last 4 years. It's ok if you don't mind... which normally I don't when it comes to utility.

I bought all leghorns straight from Meyer all chicks are alive and thriving my second order was the MPC leghorns..26 chicks we have 5 left never grew thrived or lived-not my chick raising skills we have raised around 400 chicks this year. I also noticed when I buy from a broker the shipping label comes from the actual hatchery and the shipping origination is the actual hatchery.Mine shipped from CT with a MPC label on the box-unless they have something worked out with other hatcheries Meyer isn't in CT

I ordered all three of my ladies (EE's) from MPC. I especially liked that they actually labled them EEs instead of Amerucanas or some such like most of the other hatcheries. They arrived happy and healthy and nine weeks later are thriving. Customer service was awesome (I was something of a Nervious Nelly as I've never ordered/owned chickens before). They even included three completely different colored chicks so I'd have a better chance at distinctly different looking individuals. Shipping was expensive, especially for only three chicks but it was worth it to me not to have to find someone else in suburbia to split the order with. I know it's a growing trend to own backyard chickens but most people still look at me like I have a screw loose. I don't know how many times people have asked me "is that legal?" and from there it tends to turn into an educational session regarding chicken ownership in Col. Springs.

Day they arrived!
