my pet chicken reviews

Well, Monday morning and no update from either MPC or the post office so I have no clue if mine are shipping this week or not. I can only hope the communication with this ship is better than last time. Actually I can deal with lousy communication as long as my babies don't take the "scenic" route this time (courtesy of the USPS) and I get another box of frozen corpses.

Does anyone know if the MPC system generates any kind of a notification of a yes or no? (only one I can remember from last time was a notice from the PO that the "package" was received at their facility). From then on it was PO "fairytales".

Go to mypetchicken.com and use their "Questions? Chat with us"-- its a blue bar that is at the bottom right of the screen that will pop up into a dialog box. Just have your order # handy because if you have to go to your mpc acct page you'll lose anything you've typed.

My original October order came with all the right communications- the 'flown the coop' email, shipping email- and took 2 days to get here.

My April order gave zero emails- no flown the coop email, no here's your shipping info-- so with no info by Tuesday morning, I used the website dialog box- because calls were backed up- and got the shipping info really quickly. Unpredictable, because the April batch got here overnight... About 10 minutes after I had the tracking info I got "THE" call from the post office-- fastest I've ever put a brooder together!!

Both times all chicks made it. First order was 10 standard, 2nd was 10 standard and one bantam.

Good luck!

Thanks! Tried the box, all I got was an automated response telling me everyone was busy, send us an email and we'll get back to you. I remember their email. Not so good. The first one I was in contact with wasn't even reading what I had written. I was totally frustrated by the time a supervisor? got involved. Boy, it would take a programmer maybe 20 minutes to link to the data base they use to generate their shipping labels and shoot off an automated notice of "intended" shipping with a quick explanation every time they printed a label.

Guess my only option is to keep nagging them on the chat until they get tired of me and answer my question. I just need to know if they were actually shipped or there's another delay.

ETI: Ok, I got Laree on the chat and she says if I didn't get a call then there was no problem and they shipped and that they send out notifications with tracking numbers in the evening after all the birds have been shipped. That means my chicks are now once again in the hands of the USPS and the scary part begins. I can only hope they are sent in the correct direction first this time.

Wishing you good luck this time for all to arrive quickly and alive.

Oh geez! I'm sorry that took so long!

I do remember that I never did get my shipping notification email for April's order- that Monday, the next day (even after I had them in the brooder by 11am)-- not even the day after that... It also never showed any updates for me on the "My Account" tab where you can look at your orders- not sure if it was because I'd done an add-on for a neighbor who wanted chicks too-- anyhow...

If you don't see it by tomorrow morning I'd send out another chat because they should have the tracking number by then.

I hope all your peeps arrive healthy and ready to share their lives with you!

Really hate

I got a response from that box during business hours, which are Eastern time. At the very end of the chat, no response but got an email their program crashed & answered my last question.

So far USPS has been pretty good for us, but stuff does happen unfortunately.

That's why I am glad more when more than 1 person shares their experiences on many subjects, there are wide variances.

There definitely should be an automated email, how hard can that be... Amazon does it. Not knowing is

Here's hoping for your shipment

Got my tracking number! Nice email with a bunch of extra good info relevant to my re-ship of replacement chicks. Also got a follow up email from Laree with a copy of the chat and further info. Nothing from the USPS of course. I can only say a prayer that they put the heat pack in this time because we are under a frost advisory for tomorrow night and that's probably when they will be in the truck heading for our local P.O. that is of course, as long as they don't truck them to the wrong distribution city first again.

ETA: Wednesday-no chicks. Oh well. At least USPS "SAYS" they are on a truck from Milwaukee (where they spent the night) heading north. At least they were not in a cold truck overnight. I can only hope they had the mercy to place them in a warm area since i have zero confidence they have a heatpak. (Yeah, I know it's warm somewhere, but most of our state was under a frost advisory overnight and tonight is not to be a lot warmer. This is not unusual for the first week of June here.) Still

if they don't route them to the wrong post office sorting center again. (This is where it all went very wrong last time).

Almost afraid to ask but hoping for the best- did your babies arrive today and in good shape?

Morning Shezadandy

This is now the next day. We were up early waiting for the call and we just came back from the post office where I picked up my box of 7 re-shipped chicks. I've done all I could, water with a large dose of nutridrench, chick starter, grow gel and a pre-heated brinsea (also cranked up the furnace to warm the air in the room). Showed everybody where everything was, dipped beaks in water and gel. One is clearly dying, actually thought it was going to pass in my hand, two more shaky and stumbling, three doing well.

If you are following the count, no, I didn't forget one, they did. Sigh. Two SLW (one dying), two GLW and two Partridge Plymouth Rocks. Minus one PPR. Of course it would not be the same breed as one of the two chicks that I was able to revive out of the last shipment. I've really tried to be patient and understanding about things (after all MPC can't be responsible for the USPS screw ups) and most of the folks at MPC have been great, but clearly they have no control, of course, over the USPS, but also little or none over their suppliers. First ship they couldn't read the packing slip that clearly stated to add a heat pack and this time the packer couldn't count? He (I know from the name) actually did copy in the correct numbers on the lines and copied down the correct total but must not have been able to actually count six chicks.

I surrender. I just checked and the SLW is gone and one of the PPW and one GLW are looking worse. I know what I'm doing. I am an experienced flockmaster (even taken college level courses on poultry management, behaviors and welfare. No kidding). I have my brooder in a dedicated quiet room with limited access right in my house, I use Brinseas not heat bulbs, etc. Prior to this spring I have literally never lost a chick, mail shipped or otherwise or even the rescues I have taken in. This time it's two out of the first nine survived (the rest were DOA) and three maybe four probably survive out of the second (should have been)shipment of seven.
it's just too late to try again. Honestly, I wouldn't anyway. This is not my first time mail ordering chicks but it is my first, and definitely last, time ordering from a "retailer" instead of directly from the hatcher.

I am not even going to bother filing a claim for the dead/missing chicks this time. Both MPC and us have wasted enough time and resources on this comedy of errors. There is also no dollar number that can be placed the emotional stress of this classic case of Murphy's Law anyway. Again, I am not holding MPC to blame for anything other than their lack of oversight and control over quality of the product, packaging and shipping preps done by their main supplier. MPC went out of their way, to the best of their ability, to make things right. They just aren't steering their own ship.

I am so very happy for any of you that received all your new babies alive and well!!! Enjoy your summer everyone!
