DOING THE HAPPY DANCE!!!

A huge thank you to whomever posted the tip about checking on chick availability 3 weeks ahead of your current order's ship date

My babies are due to wing their way to me on May 2nd. I decided it wouldn't hurt to just check and,,,,,,,,,,,,,,guess what???? There were the Golden Laced Wyandottes that I wanted to go with my SLW's but were all sold out when I placed my original order. As soon as I saw that I got right on the phone and just talked to a very nice gentleman named Les and we got my GLW babies added right on!!! I now have a few more chirpers coming than I originally intended (or have room for as adults) but that's not a problem because I have a neighbor lady who already told me she would gladly take any "leftovers"

Besides, I've always liked to order more chicks than I actually need because there is always the chance that there will be a completely healthy batch of chicks put into the box only to have one (or more) fail to thrive despite all the best efforts.

Anyway, just an FYI. They posted a BUNCH of new chicks today!!!

Yayyyy! By the looks of it I may have to mosey over to MPC and see if any chicks I wanted have become available. These eggs ain't looking too promising - the extended shipping time was not kind to them, although they were shipped when they were supposed to be and packaged beautifully.

I'm starting to think your eating them with some toast and bacon. Poop on your bad hatching luck. You are making me nervous though, I have two weeks before my eggs are suppose to ship out.

If I just wanted frying eggs I'm averaging 15 -19 a day from the girls. Maybe it's just me.....I dunno. But this isn't "so easy a classroom full of kindergarten kids can do it"!

I don't know if I can do it either, those kindergarten kids are smart, though I'm still good at naps and drinking my milk.

Have you thought about trying some of your own eggs just to see? It's got to be the bad shipping.

I got my MPC shipment today and couldn't be happier about how quickly they got here! They hatched yesterday and I requested tracking info from MPC last night which they emailed me promptly this morning. I'm working from home today and was hoping that they would somehow make it here today as I had the flexibility to go get them right away. Tracking info this morning only showed the arrival scan in Cleveland, OH from the hatchery so I resigned myself to not receiving them until tomorrow at the earliest. Much to my surprise, the post office called me around 8:30am, only 13 hours after they arrived in OH! I had them home, eating, drinking, butts checked, and running around like maniacs by 9am.

The only potential glitch so far is that I don't think my order was exactly right-but, I don't really care. I ordered 1 buff orpington, 1 rhode island red, 1 partridge cochin, 1 dominique, and 1 delaware. I think I may have gotten 2 dominiques and no delaware but that suits me just fine. And, I should clarify that I really don't know for sure. This is my first batch of chicks, aside from the 2 bantam cochins I picked up at Orschelns a few days ago so I am by no means an expert, but 2 look awfully similar to each other and the pictures of dominique chickens on the MPC website-nothing like the pictures of the delaware chicks. Again, not a big deal for me if that is what it turns out to be.

Overall, very pleased with MPC. Chicks were packed extremely well and arrived healthy and happy!
