my pet chicken reviews

I had them on SavAChick electrolytes and probiotics replenished every hour or so as needed immediately. That's what they recommend and what I've always used in the past. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough.

BUT, I've got another batch coming June 20 so we'll have another go. Temps are more consistent and they shipped really quickly, available for pick up Wednesday am, so I'm hoping they don't overheat! I'll see if Nutridrench is available at Tractor Supply next time I'm in and have it on hand. I'd never heard of it before.
I used to get my Nutridrench online but now pick up a fresh bottle anytime I am near a TSC (nearest one is a couple hours away but we never drive right by it

) Nutridrench is far more than just what save-a-chick has in it tho I do also use save a chick probiotics when I don't have any of my own probiotics made up. I use electrolytes too but prefer super avian pac. The problem with Save a Chick is there is no way to get it into a failing chick quickly if it won't drink on it's own which many stressed out chicks won't do. Putting a full strength drop on their beaks is like giving them a fully balanced IV. If they won't eat you can stimulate their appetites by mixing the ND in a little raw egg yolk and eye dropper that. Someone else also gave me the idea of adding a bit of strained carrot baby food to make it a little thicker so it's easier to work with and add "bulk" so you don't cause pasty butt. Found this really works great.

BTW-my two little survivors are now 3 1/2 weeks old and absolutely rowdy!!! My replacement chicks are supposed to ship in a week and a half. Hopefully we won't have another cold front go thru or if we do, whoever packs them won't think they know more than I do about our weather this time and protect them accordingly.

Look what arrived today!!!!! Well short 2 blue orpingtons but the rest are fluffy butts. Heat pack in bottom. Btw it is 90 here today lol. They are eating and drinking now. I couldnt wait for them to get to levelland tomorrow so i drove 40 miles to Lubbock and picked them up one stop short of tbeir destination. Lol im so impatient.... but really i have a procedure tomorrow and will be in the hospital and couldn't pick them up until late tomorrow.
You were shorted 2 blues???? Wow. How did MPC handle that? Were you told in advance there would be an "adjustment" to your shipment?

Well they called me last week said they might be short. But were supposed to call on monday if short so i could get a substitution if i wanted but they were 20.00 a piece. But i got no call and thought all was well. I called they offered a refund or i could wait and get them shipped later or i could sustitute now i opted for refund. Very appologic. Maybe layer ill order blues and jubilee and chocolates! ;)

Well it's 3 pm on Wednesday, my chicks haven't arrived yet, the PO say probably not until tomorrow, hopefully they will still be okay. I wish I could give the PO system my 2 cents worth, my shipped eggs arrived on Monday after being shipped on Saturday, why do living chicks take longer to move the same distance. I'm turning into a worried mom, and I'm helpless to do anything for them.

A huge hug and a little prayer for safe and speedy travels for your babies. Tho it is a bit wet, at least we are having better (aka warmer) weather than 3 weeks ago so at least yours should not arrive frozen solid like mine did last time. I still can't believe that whole mess. I wonder if anyone took my advice and looked into how places like Cackle Hatchery box and prep their shipments.

Keep me posted.

totally understand i knew that i couldnt pick them up early today so i call lubbock 40 miles away and made sure they were there and drove and picked them up. Im so impatient. But im home now only have a major headache from the durn anesthesia but all good reports so its okay!

Thanks both of you, hopefully they put that gel stuff in the box for them to eat. My PO doesn't know where they are, just they are in transit. I would fetch them if I knew where they were. Boy it sure is different when it's your own kids, I actually wanted to cry when that was their answer. Now I more understand what you went through chickisoup, I'm envisioning a whole box of dead babies. So sad. I do believe in the past I received them on a Thursday, and they were okay, really should write things down.

The post office 50 miles north of us called to ask if we wished to come get them or wait until morning when they will be shipped to my PO. So they went right on by us to go north 50 miles. My husband is going to go fetch them while I get the brooder ready, he's my hero. It will take 2 hours or so for a round trip.

A final update on my shipped eggs, I got rid of two this morning after candling, than this evening I had my husband open the two remaining eggs, both were dead, and probably died a few days ago, one was a lavender Wyandotte, the only one that developed out of six the other was a cuckoo bluebar, I was wrong earlier, only one of those hatched. So out of a dozen shipped eggs I got 4 olive eggers, and one cuckoo bluebar. Slightly less than the 50% expected. Out of my own set eggs I got 100%. So 9 total.

I'll update after my chicks get here.
