I just wanted to spread the word about my successful chicken order from My pet Chicken.

I ordered 10 bantams and 3 standards and every single chick arrived healthy and alert. There was green grow gel and a little heat pad included in the bottom of the box which I'm sure further contributed to the successful delivery. Also, the box was padded on all four sides with straw/hay as well. They were shipped from Ohio to Ma overnight which I'm sure further ensured their safe arrival.

I have ordered both bantams and standards from 5 different hatcheries over the last seven years and have ALWAYS experienced both deaths and pasty bottoms with each order. Not a single order EVER arrived the next day.

I'm very pleased to say this is the smallest order I ever placed and have NOT experienced any deaths or pasty bottom STILL. Personally, I can not say enough good things about this company and I will continue to order from them in the future.

I appreciate the flexibility of small orders that they provide since I have never been in a position to want 25 chicks at one time.

I spent the extra money to get all females and 1 male and will be curious to see how successful their bantam sexer is at his/her job. I understand they are the only "hatchery" in the states that sexes bantams.

Congrats! I too am interested in how successful the hit rate is on the bantam sexer is, because I do want a bantam or two, but really really do not want a banty rooster as I hear they are seriously hot blooded and mean. Keep us posted.

It's probably safer to say certain breeds of bantam roosters tend to be a little more aggressive than others. Three years ago, I ordered 15 bantams from a different hatchery. Nine of them ended up being males (all d'uccles) and I only kept one. I decided on him because he was the least aggressive to the hens but he and I aren't crazy about each other. He charges me weekly, but I have managed the situation by bringing in my little red kids shovel each time I go into the yard. He is terrified (with good reason) of this shovel and stays away from me. The only reason I keep him is he is an excellent father and protector. He has never once hurt/pecked any of the hens or chicks and as far as challenging me, that is his job so I can deal with it.

Over the years I have had five standard roosters and got rid of every one of them because they were either wacked out crazy to me or the hens.

So to shorten the long story keep in mind that any roosters can be aggressive and certain breeds even more so. I wouldn't shy away from bantam roosters strictly for that reason. The reason I chose the frizzle cochin is both the bantams and standards of this breed are supposed to be laid back in general. Originally, I was going to order a japanese but then remembered they could be particularly mean so I changed my mind.

I will post later on the success of the sexing

Hey Steve,

That's just another check in the PLUS column for my little guy

I'm thinking of calling him Brewster the Rooster. I just saw/heard that somewhere (can't remember where) and I thought it was funny but my 17 DD thinks it's lame lol. I told her that's what's great about being middle aged, we just don't care if we're lame or not anymore
