The negative one is the red flag. People click on that to report spam, offensive posts, etc. Green thumbs up is positive.

Oh Zaz, I am so sorry! I thought you were trying to be funny.

My perception of you, especially having the forum count that you do, was that you knew all the aspects of how the forum worked. The 'Thumbs Up' button on the bottom right of every post is for giving Ovations to people for giving helpful information. Everyone gets to give ten Ovations per day to begin with and then as you accumulate more yourself you get to give more.

It's basically for giving attaboys to people for sharing USEFULL information.

It's kinda like applause, like when actors or singers get .... a standing ovation

I've tagged some of Zaz's posts with it cuz the beautiful photos are really wonderful and you can learn a lot from them. Posts with ovations get a little number in a box next to the green thumbs up. The more people that gave it an "ovation" or green thumbs up, the higher that number will be.

Zaz, if you go to your profile page, there's a count for ovations. If you click on it, it will show you how many ovations folks have given you, and the ovation number, which is not necessarily the same. If somebody who has a lot of ovations themselves, like @casportpony , gives an ovation, it counts for more ovations points. A newbie like me probably only increases somebody's count by 1, because I haven't been around as long. Kathy has acquired a massively impressive reputation from all her marvelous advice, so it counts a lot in the system if she puts in a green thumbs up.

On that screen, it also lists out all the ovations, and shows you if the person said anything when they gave the ovation. You can see the same information, but only for the individual post, if you go to the little number next to the green arrow, and click on the little drop down arrow on the side of it. That will show you who liked it, and what they said about it, if anything, when they liked it.
