I hatched out 24 chicks from a mixed flock of mostly easter eggers, a barred rock and 2 white hens. Out of that I got 9 EE roosters, 2 white pullets, 2 barred rock pullets and the rest were EE pullets. Didn't need all the roosters so at about 20 weeks old we spent one day butchering all the roosters. One week later "Betty" started crowing. Within three weeks his comb and wattles started to grow, along with tail and hackle feathers. Betty became Bob. I have no idea why he didn't show signs of his roosterhood earlier. I've had other barred rock roos that are fully mature looking at twenty weeks old. I so admired his chameleon survival skills that I re-homed him. He is now the proud rooster of a flock of 4 hens.
