Deerman can you tell me which is which? I know which are the white ones. And the guy that I got the eggs from said that they were Texas A&M he gave me a few right out of their cage. Are they still Texas A&M but those are the specific colors? Thank you for all of the help.

UPDATE!
I lost one over the night, it was from a very tiny egg. I was surprised it even hatched.

SO I am down to 10. I can not believe I will be getting eggs by November!!!!!

Oh Harley... :aww I HATE that! I had a couple that decided to commit suicide in the water dish... they drowned, with marbles! in 1/4" of water.
sad.png
But they both were the last to hatch, and had issues, so perhaps it was for the best. It still breaks the heart.

I love the Tuxedos... I hatched a couple that I thought were Tuxedos, but now I think they're just mixes...

Dont know who started calling them Japanese. Think maybe the Japanese may be the buttons.

Because majority of the cortunix species do live in asia and several species even have japan or china in their scientific name including the most common species of cortunix. "Pharoah" quail is just another name made popular by the story of them being used by egyption pharoahs when in reality they have been used by many cultures over many continents and countries. Their asian origin gets far more mention in scientific articles and naming.

I have one customer that can't say Coturnix to save his life, so he glommed onto "Japanese"... he said he can SAY that!

Now that would be great!!!!

I lost another one. The 2 that I lost were the last ones to hatch out.
hmm.png
I think that they were weak.
sad.png
The rest are just fine zipping all around! They are the fastest things ever! Not sure how I would ever catch one if it got loose.

Failure to thrive... that's what happened to my last two.

Handle them as much as you can... I've found that if I put my hand in their brooder every time I pass by, they're a lot calmer/friendlier.

BWs are known for their skittishness.

Congrats!!!! I hatched 5 jumbo coturnix two weeks ago and they are very calm compared to the buttons. They grow so fast!!!! Can't wait to start getting eggs and I have 39 more in the bator that will hatch next week.

My buttons are not friendly either except for one female. My DD felt sorry for her because the male picks her constantly so she started handling her and she is very calm. Otherwise, they are pretty to look at, fun to watch and listen to, but not good for much else.

I have people wanting eggs...and they are only a few days old! LOL

I told them by November I should be getting eggs. And they are already excited!! This is all new to me, and I am really enjoying the experience!!!!

Well you just add me to that list of people wanting eggs!

Another good excuse to drive up to visit a friend!
