MY Rescue Dogs- Pit mixes??

They both look like purebred Pits to me. They are both beautiful and you are so sweet for taking them in! I love Pits!

We rescued a pit in March and the only trouble we have had is he jumps our 6 foot chain-link fence. We have taken care of that, and he is a very happy dog and very eager to please. He loves people and when we found him he was usually surrounded by a group of kids.

Right now, he is my DS's 4-H dog project. He can be very stubborn when it comes to 'sit', but my DS has learned to be the alpha, so he is improving. During training he is around 10 other dogs ranging from the little yip yap dogs to a rottweiler. He is showing no signs of animal aggression, as he mostly is trying to please my DS.

I have to admit that we had never had a pit before, but I really like the breed. My neighbors have 2 pits that our dog plays with, so that may have helped him to be more social with other animals.

Now, if we can just keep him from teasing and chasing our cats, he might be allowed in the house, lol.

Thanks for taking in these two dogs who so desperately needed your love and care.

6chickens in St. Charles :

there's a form of epilepsy which could result in SEVERE harm to you and your loved ones, especially if moving things (bike tires, running animals) result in the dogs running and snapping its jaws.

Do you have a link to a website to back up this information? Because I have never heard of such nonsense.... "Epilepsy" that causes a dog to run and snap it's jaws?
I could be wrong- I've been wrong before, but really?

To the OP- Pit bulls make great pets, but ture, they are not for everyone. They need to know you are alpha, they need a firm but gentle hand. Please research the breed, from reputible resources. Allow yourself to read facts and do not let your mind be clouded by bais opinions or ignorence. Whatever decision you make, I'm sure it will be right for you and your family. Please, if you do decide to give them away, be absolutly sure they are going to someone who is responsible and who will give loving home. The last thing these dogs need is to end up in a terrible situation.

Thank you for your kindness, sounds like you have a great heart.

The only medical problems that I have heard pits being prone to is called a "Spinal Stroke". This is when parts of the inside of the vertebrea can splinter or chunck off and stab or cut into the spinal cord causing paralysis in the back legs. Its somewhat rare, but pits seem to experience it more because of their intensive play.

My dog Daisy had this happen. After a $3000 surgery to retrieve the splinters she started to walk again.

God I love Pit Bulls!!!

They are beautiful pure Pit Bulls! Did I mention beautiful? I LOVE Pit Bulls. They are so sweet and intelligent. Thank you for rescuing them.

Yes, I thought I would add a graphic timeline, in pictures, of what happens when an innocent cat gets on a bed "belonging" to a mean, vicious pit bull. This will show you how territorial these animals can be. Remember, these pics are graphic, you have been warned.
