My Roo Doesn't Crow

Teach him! Really, If you give him the notes, act like his daddy, he'll pick it up easy. Cockerals USUALLY learn from the boss if they're lucky 'nuff to be around. If he has'nt heard it, most likely he won't??? We could'nt wait, so I acted the fool,,,,,,,,,,,biggest mistake I ever made. His first attempt sounded like a seal, but I kept it up for a day 'er two, and whalah! he got it, now he's REALLY good at it, like 3;30 am or so??? Careful what you wish for!

Sorry GSIM, there will be no video evidence as I am careful to only crow when there are no witness' or cameras around! I LOVE living on a farm!

Serious?,,,,,as a heart attack! He was two days listening, and the third was when he sounded like a seal. I kept it up, and as the days went on (like the 5th) he had it. It was a 4 note squawk at best, but as time went on he perfected it. Only took a week - ten days.

My Rooster was hatched 07/20 and began crowing in November but only once or twice - it sounded nothing like it should for weeks and finally he sounds like a rooster. Now he crows all the time but I too thought I had a silent rooster for a long time and was hoping for him to crow. He still does not crow unless he hears another rooster crowing - all my neighbors have roosters. So he answers a call but does not place any! Cockadoodledooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. I did crow at him a lot hoping to get him interested in crowing - my kids thought I was crazy!!!

Here he is: King Richard, the handsome, silent type. I think I may download the video of Little Ricky and play that for King Richard as a demo! Now THAT would be a funny video. Wonder what he would do?

You have a beautiful AND crowless rooster!!! That's better than a golden egg!! Is he sweet and friendly even when you walk away from him? You have an urban myth! Or I guess that would be a 'rural myth'...

He has never shown any kind of aggression. I took some advice from others on the forum and have not "friended" him like some of my hens by hand feeding etc. It was suggested that would let him continue to see us as dominant, and so far he just walks away from us and never shows any concern even when I have to mess with one of the hens. So I would say he is well mannered but not necessarily friendly. He also seems to be very gentle with the hens, and so far I haven't noticed even a feather missing from them.

I specifically got a cochin roo because of the temperament since we often have kids running around. If he continues to be so good, I probably should get a cochin hen and hatch some. We have never hatched any and my kids would love that!
