My Roo Doesn't Crow

I have a Cochin Rooster that may be 8 weeks. he is the oldest of 10 full size cochins and the only one I know is a roo for sure. I am keeping them in the house through winter, or until the youngest birds feather out and can stay outside. I am not going to teach him to crow. there is a rooster about 3 blocks from the house that I hear crow every so often.

I am fine with him not crowing. he churtles like all the others and that is good enough for me.

I could imagine him crowing at 3:30 in the morning. when the wife sleeps till four am and I sleep till six am. thats if I hit the sack by 12 or 1. I would be tempted remove the buggers vocal chords along with his maleness. I cant send him to freezer camp because I promissed I wouldnt.

I use to have 2 RIR Roos that did not crow for a year! I got them in March and did not hear a peep outta them until the following April! Needless to say after they started, there was no stopping them! They were great "watchdogs" too! Crowed every time a car pulled into the driveway!

Currently I have 2 Silkie cockerels ... brothers ... Only one of them crows and he does not crow everyday. When he does crow, it is a much quieter crow and he will only crow a few times then quiets down.

Ihave a full size white Cochin that hasnt crowed yet. I thank God every day he doesnt. he has a younger brother that does though

No neighboring roos?YOU ARE SO VERY lucky!! My neighbors have a Jersey Giant, that boy and my roo have crowwing contests all day long!

I had a Cochin Roo hatched last Spring who crowed for the first time about 2 weeks ago. We're not supposed to have roo's in town, so I had to take him back to the farm once he started crowing.

Really you don't want him to crow. My FCBM crows starting at 4:15am there after every 2 to 5 mins for a soild 3-4 hours stops and just about the time you think yeah silence he starts again along with the EE and spitz roo's. Until Big T comes along then everyone pipes down.
