My Roo is dead ( stupid neighbor dog)

I get so upset everytime I read about another of these dog attacks. When are people going to realize it is THEIR responsibility to keep their dogs on their property. STUPID DOG OWNERS!! All my animals stay on my property at all times unless being walked on a LEASH!!

Iam so sorry for your loss. My thoughts will be with you and your family today.

i feel ur pain been in the same spot.

Don't forget the damage to your coop you have to repair. I know money won't bring back your chickens or heal your heart, but hitting them in the pocket book is one of the few things that may motivate a bad dog owner. Having to pay for damage and having to pay fines for letting their dogs run and get in trouble. That's what finally helped with a neighbor of ours that used to let their dogs run. Until it started to cost them money, they didn't care what those dogs did.

I'm really sorry you and your birds had to go through this. I've had bad neighbors a couple of times, too and it's never pleasant.

Harangue animal control *AND* the law until they actually do something about the useless boils on the butt of humanity neighbors!

Remember it is easier to ask for more and get less then to have not gotten what you truely needed to cover your loss. You have a coop to repair as well as birds you are out. Then consider that you are out eggs, chicks, and probably more. This is what will help you make the point that this WILL NOT happen again. If they balk at it remember that small claims courts do exist. You are not asking to much of your neighbor just that they mind their business like you mind yours. i have been on both sides (sort of) for this story. I had a neighbor's cows that got out and destroyed my garden as well as some property. They did offer to pay (later), but to this day (2 years) don't speak to me more than anything because I got mad and stood my ground do to their neglagence.

Now for the other side. As well as chickens I am a dog breeder (American Bulldogs) 120 lbs of spoiled puppies. One is snoring at my feet as I type. They would harm much of anything but are a typical animal and if they can get out they will. hey have "gone to visit" but never ever damaged anything or anyone, but I always imediately offer to repair or replace anything that they might have damaged just like I do when my kids get out, haha. Your property ois your responsibility and you should own up to it just like they should.

Look for pay back for their actions but also look for long term effects. You may get what you ask for in payment but you may also get what you didn't by being isolated by you neighbor. This is a choice that you need to decide. Maybe you can look into have them help you repair you coop as then offer to help them "confine" their animals.

Good luck, you are in a rough spot!

I just put new straw in the coop and spent some time with the girls. I gave them lots of treats and love but they are not acting the same. They have never had a reason to be scared before, nothing has ever tried to hurt them and now they are just freaked out. Hope they calm down soon. I never realized how much I loved my chickens until today. I have been looking everywhere for more partridge rocks and I just can't find any. I looked for roosters, hens, chicks, fertilized eggs. can't find any anywhere and I don't want to wait till spring. My yard looks so empty now. I miss my roo

LisaJean...why would you want an animal to suffer for something that is really the owners fault. That's a terrible way to die. If you want to dispose of it a gun is a much kinder way to go.

If animal control is no help, a paper lunch bag of dry dog food soaked in antifreeze left in a convenient place will do the trick. Just make sure it isn't where any innocent animals can get it.

As a cert. vet tech, I have watch animals die of antifreeze poisoning, I do not wish that on any animal. It is not the dogs fault...it is the owners. If you must do something, do it humanely. Poisoning as revenge is uncalled for, IMO.

Sorry for your loss.
