In the past week I have lost 28 hens and one rooster. Possibly to a weasel. I love in ohio so a weasel was the last thing I thought of. But it seems to fit. I have taken as much precaution as possible and my rwmaining 11 hare still alive. I have set out traps but am unable to catch it. I've borded up my coop as much as possible and for the past 3 days I haven't lost a chicken. However my rooster seems to be sick. I'm not sure if its be ause of the loss of all his hens or if he is injured internally. But his comb and wattles are now very pale. I see him drink some but haven't seen him eat. Now I found himsittin in the coop by himself. Usually he is with the femals and always comes to see me. I tried to coax him out, but he would just stomp his foot and and sat down.

It's been stressful for everyone but I don't know what to so about my Ryder, that's his name.

Any advice?

Hi have you noticed any more symptoms? How is his breathing? Any cough or mucus present? Did he actually fight the weasel? Could the weasel have hurt him or caused injury? Is the weasel scaring him at night? Could he be stressed because of that? Just trying to think of possibilitys? If you notice any more symptoms please post it will help a lot in trying to figure out what is going on with him. Best of luck

I just looked him over with a fine tooth comb. The only thing I see are frathers missing around his neck where I think the fought with the weasel. But I see no blood anywhere. I checked his feet and see no damage there. I have put another lock at the bottom of the entrance and set out traps, haven't caught anything yet but I also haven't lost any chickens. His breathing seems fine, he's just listless. I was thinking stress and the loss of his top mates might have him depressed. I'm afraid to add more hens since I haven't caught the murderer and I also don't know if its even around. ...not sure where to go from here.

Thanks, we lost our most favorites and I think his top favorites also. He doesn't look hurt. I did find a vet that sees livestock so I will give him a call. Thanks
