my rooster keeps attacking me!

So he tries to hurt you and you reward with food??!!  Any critter who's willing to attack another critter who's 20x larger, and has fed him his whole life, is not smart and not likely to get better with treats.  Mary

One of the roles of a rooster in the flock is to give it's life defending the hens.

So it's willingness to attack something much larger then it is a desireable trait.

You just want to convince it that you are not what should be attacked.

You guys are attributing way too much intelligence to a bird.
Birds are quite intelligent despite their pea-sized brains.

I recommend picking him up after he even looks at you in an aggressive way. Yes, they do give "a look". I've stopped one of my big roosters from attacking using that method. If you have to chase him a little bit, that's fine. Then grab him, and carry him around while doing minor chores or giving treats.

I've heard that picking them up and holding them upside down until they calm down works. However, I"m not sure about doing this. I have 10 roosters and will cull to 3-4 in a few months. My most aggressive roo is getting culled. will another take his place and become equally protective of the flock?

I think it is like two bit tyrant is a banana republic when one dictator is deposed another takes his place.....I bet you did not want to hear that....

Oh I'm sorry! I dealt with the same thing last spring. I ended up re homing him, I didn't have the heart to cull him. But I have read...picking him up and holding him, carry him around the yard and show him who's boss! Keep doing this each day. I tried doing this with mine but he kept attacking. I hope you have better luck :)
