Sounds like something my big broiler (he is our pet though) rooster Wingnut would do.

Wow. that's amazing rooster!!

I hopefully my RIR cockerels became one of hero to the hens someday!

I have 11 roosters here, 4 RIR cockerels, 2 Nankin roosters, 2 silkies roosters, and 2 or 3 Silkie X Nankin cockerels.

Hopefully they will fight the wild birds away to protects their hens.

I might wont be keeping 4 RIR cockerels, probably keep 1 or 2. IF they ever get along without fighting, they all have their own fenced around the coops, but I do let them free range everyday. If I want to breeding them I will keep them in their own pens.

Last year My black Jersey Giant have a chance to fight the fox away but he was too young to fight it away. he was about 7 months old that time. when he turned about 8 month and half old, He started attacked my German shepherd and Dachound, Which why I sold him. If I ever kept him, he probably would fight the predators away for sure.
I still have his sisters. Hopefully someday I will get his son too, Only if he ever will grow up sweet not like his father. hahaha

He was CRUEL one, He changed his personaility after the fox attacks. He was not same, also became to meanest rooster ever.
I got my Black Jersey Giant flock from Efowl.com.. That's where I orders most of my chicks from.

I studied to get my falconers license yrs ago and am astounded that a rooster could take a large hawk down like that! I'm new to chickens so obviously have lots to learn. I'm sad for the hawk though...and it's family! They mate for life and its nesting season right now. But gotta hand to the rooster!!
