My rooster was bitten and has maggots.. what should i do??

Diluted iodine is what the vets will use to wash the area.

I've had great luck using it on all my animals... You should be able to get Povidone Iodine at any feed store, in the horse section, then take about 1/4 cup and mix it in a bowl with lukewarm water, you can use a syringe (without needle) to "shoot" it at the area to help clean debris out, and you can soak it as well. No need to rinse, after dry use anti-biotic ointment. I've used this so far on myself, cats, dogs, rabbits, chickens, and it works great!

They do surprisingly well.
Iodine is good for killing maggots, too.

If there are obvious signs of underlying infection then antibiotics will be needed, but sometimes the maggots are superficial and can be totally removed (pretty gross though!)

I was just about to post the same thing- I went and checked on my hen who was bitten by a dog and found maggots on her. I sprayed her well with Blu Kote and she's isolated. Otherwise, she's eating and drinking. Should they have oral antibiotics? I am passing Tractor Supply tomorrow am so that would be an ideal time/place to get it if needed.

Thanks and I hope the OP's rooster is healing now.
