My roosters wattles are black!!! Need help

I guess I just have to hope for the best. My coop has a 1' wide strip of hardware cloth around the top for ventilation and the top portion of one door. Fortunately, it doesn't really get much below freezing here and even then it's usually only for a couple of hours.

So I pretty much do nothing? But he’ll be ok?

What you can do is rise the waterer as high as possible, so the will not dunk their wattles in when they bend over it to drink.
And use a waterer with a narrow rim like these:

Ok. As of right now I have a black feed bowl with water in it. But I think the water in a waterer would freeze.
