My private Christian school that I have been attending for 4 years has came up with a new rule.We MUST give them the links to our, blogs, facebooks, and accept them as a friend on Myspace, websites, ect. So they can monitor us 24/7 on what we say,who we're talking to,music, ect. If we don't comply with these rules we can be kicked out.

This is not setting well with me or my mom.Its my PARENTS job to monitor what i do on the Internet not the schools ! What happened to freedom of speech?
oh thats right my school doesn't allow that.
Here is straight from the handbook,The schools name will be X'd out.

As stated in the student code of conduct, ### expects behavior honoring God and reflecting a positive image of the school to be exhibited on and off campus. Because of this, we have adopted the following policy regarding Internet networking sites and blogs to hold students accountable and to prevent them from unnecessary risks. The policy is stated as followings:

All students who maintain a personal online website, blogs, or participate in a personal networking site must register it with ### during the first week of school or upon its creation. ### will require access to the page via being listed as a "friend on myspace",ect. All students who maintain personal websites, blogs,or participate in personal networking sites prior to becoming a student at ### must register them as soon as they are accepted as students. All sites and blogs will be monitored by staff on a regular basis for appearance and content.

Students found with unregistered sites or blogs and/or inappropriate material on their website/blog will be subject to disciplinary action up to and including expulsion. Inappropriate material includes but is not limited to appearance, music, graphics, photographs, animations, video clips, content, links, comments, ect. If inappropriate material or unregistered sites are found, the parent will be notified immediately and giving a time period of two days to appropriately handle the issue. Family's who refuse to comply with this policy must understand that they will be in jeopardy of loosing their student in enrollment at ###.

IS THIS EVEN LEGAL?

I actually don't think it is legal. It is perfectly okay for them to monitor what you do while you are AT school but they are not responsible for you out of school.

Like for instance, they can restrict your access to such websites during school hours, fair enough, but they don't have the right to be on your blog, and invade your personal internet space.

Lacy, I think it is legal. Your parents probably sign a waiver or contract authorizing it.

At the grade level you are at I suggest you just let this one go. This is not a constitutional or legal issue. You go to a private school. Be thankful for that.

My first thought was simply to create duplicate Facebook pages and give the school the one you play nice on. Trouble with that is people are evil and vindictive and would report you as soon as they find alternate pages.

Make the most of your time and experience at that school. I know it's hard to swallow this poo but it's in your best interest.

Maybe they are considering cyber bullying a possibility of why they are asking for those things but neverthanless, I think it IS the parents responsiblity to monitor the kids.

I went to a Christian School at one point and they had rules about conduct outside of campus as well. Including drug use and even sexual behavior. If it were to be found out that you were sexually active, you could get expelled. It can be complicated and were in a new day of technology

I wouldn't send my kid to a school that sends out a memo that spells "families", "family's".

Or "losing" as "loosing".

What kind of education could you possibly be getting there?
