My Science Teacher said something I do not particularly agree with....

Sorry Dinos. Didn't know. Now I do. Hey I learned something.

For those of you who disagree with my initial post I suggest you read it again
with an open mind. I would LOVE to debate this issue but do not want to hijack

I've never had a science teacher that was so wrapped up in himself that he wouldn't like to know when he is wrong. He probably read about how they dye chicks with only half a brain engaged and came to a conclusion. I think the idea of talking to him about it is good. But I do suggest that it be done nicely and best alone. Print out an article about how to dye baby chicks in the shell and then some pics of different breeds hatching.

Don't get me going on who gets degrees to teach - I have known some really good teachers and more really bad ones. We're in the middle of a teaching shortage and some people are teaching classes that they learned the subject matter the night before.

Ok I went long so I'll sum this up and make it short and readable.

Your teacher is correct if what he said was exactly as you quoted him.

It is tempting. I can only defend my DH and his ability to teach what he DOES know. And that if he doesn't know the answer to a question raised in one of his classes he will research the answer with his students. I got irritated by your OP simply in his defense.

As for the actual subject at hand, I've learned a lot and have more questions and I'm glad it came up!

I NEVER said ALL teachers. I understand getting defensive. Try being the son of
a VERY good retired police officer.

No, I'm just referring to the "Those who can't do teach" comment. It wasn't qualified either way-all or just some teachers. I'm not the kind to get all irritated and go stomping off so we can just agree to disagree and end this smiling. Since we live in the same small state that may be best....

And no thanks! MY BF's dad was a police officer and that was another story altogether!

This has been an interesting thread and I think I have made a couple of good points about the subject.
I would love to see if anyone came up with contradictory information, or any thoughts they might have on what I posted, but I fear that this thread will not continue much longer due to topic drift, I think thats a shame.
