My 'Show Coop'

Intheswamp...

Howdy, I am in 'North Texas'.
As far as the front and right side of the 'coop',
I planned to hang removeable partitions.
Wired to the frame and capable of going up in the winter
and storing them in the barn in the summer.
I had left it open for 'This' picture but never finished it
as the poultry don't care and after all it is a 'Show Coop'.

Thank you...♫

Howdy Knife. Ok, you're further north than I am but also you're further inland. Sounds like a plan with the removable sides. Your open air coop looks good and your run is very nice (BIG)

. I've been planning something similar with removable panels to cover over the hardware cloth on the sides of the coop during the winter.

I'm curious about whether you have any predators in your area? The reason I ask is that I don't see anyway to secure the coop and I see several raccoon ladders next to the run. ???

The coop will be covered with nylon netting as soon as I can afford it.

Thank you...

Knife, you probably think I'm the most negative person you met lately. I'm not knocking your setup, it's *really* nice....and *far better* than mine 'cause I ain't got one! It's just that I tend to look at things a bit critically. It's with all in good intent and it helps me to formulate my coop and run plans. Having said all that...here I go again...

The nylon netting won't help against raccoons, they tear through chicken wire easily. The netting *will* help against avian predators such as owls and hawks.

I like the trees...shade.

Where it looks like I'll be building my coop it doesn't look like much shade is available so I'll have to be building them shade.

You could always strategically set up some electric fencing. Bottom, middle, and top of run fence. You could even go so far as running some wires from the main top wire over to (and around) the trees to stop any coons from climbing them and going over the fence. Just some thoughts. If the coop is too far from an electrical source the solar charged fence boxes have really gotten affordable over the last few years...you can find a sunny spot and run the wire from there.

Howdy, coon are almighty viscous and can eat through anything.
But... I am a hunter a trapper and have two fine coon hounds.
Now I like raising poultry and I don't hate coon...
But in one respect, I raise poultry to attract coon to my place for my hounds .

I don't know about the nylon netting...
It's pretty tough!
My hounds will hear him...

I'll be ready too...

Thank you for writing...

Wow!!!! That is awesome - It looks so nice and fresh and roomy... That would make a great summer coop for us, as we are finally breaking out of our 20s at night!!

Yelp, I saw some leg-traps hanging under the coop.

Well, if you're raising chickens to attract coons looks like you've got a good start on it.

Take care,
Ed
