My Silkie is sick

The problem is the amount of calcium in layer feed. There's more calcium in layer feed to help with the egg shell production in hens. It's hard to say if it's the layer or something else. If it's not eating, you can try mashing up some scrambled eggs or boiled egg yolk with the Starter & some water, see it that will entice it to eat.

Continue treating with the Corid (5 - 7 days), what dose are you using?
What other symptoms is the chick exhibiting?

Ok, I will treat her with Corid and stop feeding them layer food if there are chicks in their coop. It said on the bag that it was 16% layer food, does that make a difference? I have put her in a box and took her into the house and given her medicated chick food. Is my chick sick because she had too much calcium or is it from something else?

It’s hard to say what exactly is making your chick sick, but the excessive calcium is definitely not helping. Calcium overdose can cause the symptoms you’re describing: decreased food intake, muscle weakness, fatigue, confusion, and death.

If you’re going to treat with corid, make sure you’re not giving any electrolytes with vitamins in it. It will stop it from working properly.

There is no way anyone can tell you this for a fact through the internet. Layer feed has too much calcium which can ruin a chicks organs.

We fed her some coconut oil last night. Now she is standing up and walking a little but is still a little bit off balance. She now eats her medicated chick food by herself and I saw her drink once today. I have still been giving her more coconut oil and vitamin water. I just saw her poop today it was a little watery but not diarrhea. Should I still treat her with corid? Also if I give her her vitamin water and her corid in separate containers does it still neutralize in her stomach?

Thank you so much for the replies and advice. I now know how to handle this situation when my silkies are sick to the point of being lame. I now will keep up with vitamins and medicated chick feed with them to prevent this. It seems that the combination of coconut oil, nutridrench, electrolytes, probiotics and medicated feed were the solution. Also gave her some selenium in her food. She has fully recovered and is doing great. )))

I wish I would have tried this with another one of my silkies that was sick just a few months ago. Same symptoms and we gave it nutridrench and medicated feed but not the other items. Because she was not recovering I began to believe she had a spinal injury. That poor little silkie died. ((

We had started these young birds on adult crumble because we were going out of town on vacation and we wanted to keep it simple for the care taker to fill all the coops with one type of feed. We certainly learned our lesson.

Coconut Oil seemed very helpful also.

Medicated feed will not cure coccidiosis and if coccidiosis isn't caught and treated quickly it can kill.

Thank you for your advice and concern but this silkie did not have coccidiosis. I gave her corrid for maybe 2 days. It was the treatment of coconut oil, nutridrench, electrolytes, probiotics and medicated feed that enabled this bird to thrive and detox. I'm thinking it was the feed and a calcium build up in its system. We caught it in time, switched food and the vitamins helped along the way. I have had birds with coccidiosis before and treated them and cured them of it. The behavior and the progress of the illness was totally different then what I've experienced with birds with coccidiosis. Thank you though for the timely advice and concern she is healthy and doing great.
