My oldest son is Travis and I while I love it, he was supposed to be Levi. Both my husband and I loved it, but his parents hated it and made fun of it and hubby caved. That was the last time we shared our names with them before the baby was named.
Our second son (third child) was adopted. This was 10 years later and a second bio baby in between. Again we picked Levi but we lost that child's referral because he had some serious medical conditions and since Dh was self employed, our insurance could refuse to cover him. We were given another referral and after loving the first boy (in our hearts, we didn't have him yet) and calling him Levi for months, I couldn't just transfer the name to another child. Our second son is Samuel Thomas, Thomas is after my Dad and would have been Levi's middle name.
We also have two girls, Rachel and Maya. All of our kids have family names for their middle names, but Maya, being our last is named after a bunch of family. Maya is a form of May, Mary & Marie, all either the first or middle name of 1 Grandma and 2 Great Grandmas and her middle name is Evalyn, after another Great Grandma, Eva, and my middle name Lynn. Pronounced like the more common spelling, Evelyn. For those not familiar, Maya is the most common spelling of the name, "My ah", but most people who hear it, spell it Mia which is actually" Mee ah" and most people who see it spelled, pronounced it "May ah". Oh well, I tried to make it easy.
