I have an associate at the office who jokes about how I am gonna to have a metal farm, I need to come up with a good name for it, because the first specific breeds I want are Ayam Cemoni (got my little Lilith) and a Deathlayer. Ill have to check this one out, just found out about the V combs the other day and decided I needed a chicken with one.I think La Fleche aregorgeous, but I've heard lots of folks say their comes look like devils' horns. They're def the heavy metal chicken.
I think they are elegant breed. Maybe the OP should look into sourcing White Faced Black Spanish for an unusual looking breed. They are also known as clown face chicken. While a very rare breed. Doable to find the right breeder.
I’m really having recent obsession of Sicilian Buttercups myself!I love these to death and think they’re beautiful but I know some people think they’re ugly. Have you looked into buttercups?
Maybe Bielefelder or Cream Legbar? Their colors look kind of ugly to me. Bielefelders get big and lay brown eggs. Cream Legbars have a little tuft of feathers on the back of their head and lay blue eggs.
As others have said, Turkens are ugly but apparently good layers, and they are common enough that they are fairly easy to get.
Just a warning about some of the other breeds that have been mentioned:
--chickens with crest feathers that hang over their eyes sometimes have trouble seeing, which can lead to other chickens bullying them. Polish and Silkies both have crests, so this could be an issue with them.
--Oddly textured feathers don't keep out rain or wind or cold as well as normal feathers. This applies to the hairy feathers on Silkies and sticking out feathers on Frizzles. Depending on your weather and your chicken coop arrangement, this may or may not be a problem for you.
I agree, my mom says that Cornish bantams look like pingpong balls (head) on bowling balls (body).Appenzeller spitzhaubens, modern games, Japanese bantams, oriental gamefowl, orloffs, cornishes (not cornish x), English orpingtons, crevecoeurs, houdans, redcaps, and sultans are some I can think of. A few of these may have been suggested already. I don’t consider any to be ugly, but they definitely look different.
