I see the knife shape too I didn't the first time I looked at it but when I read your post i had another look at the pic and yep sure does look like a blood covered knife had been there.
The spot on the carpet does look like a bloody knife was dropped there. The door does look like it was punched or kicked in.. Looks almost like a sceen from an abusive husband chasing after his wife.
If the carpet was not properly cleaned. Dump Hydrogen Peroxide on it. If it is blood there is a chance it may still bubble up.. Make sure you pour enough on there that it soaks down to the pad. The top layer of carpet may be clean enough it wont work just on the surface.
Have you found out the history of the house yet. Like has there been any crimes there before you moved in. That house isnt very old to have had 5 owners already. Why did the other owners leave????
