My son was spurred.

My son was spurred by my neighbors rooster today in a couple of places on his knee. I'm worried about it getting infected. I told him to put triple antibiotic cream on it. Will he likely need some antibiotics?

It's hard to say. Watch for signs of infection, and go in if they appear.

Thanks for responding so quick. If it starts looking bad by tomorrow I may need to run him up to the ER. He (the rooster) grabbed his leg with his spurs and my son said he could feel them go up under his knee cap.

If it really did pierce that deep, I would put a call in to the doctor asap in the morning. I would recommend antibiotics to prevent a knee infection. A simple scratch would most likely be fine with triple antibiotic cream.

Cleanse/flush the wound well with half peroxide and half water. Irrigate the crap out of it.

If it's actually a puncture wound, especially at a joint, he needs to be seen.

If it's just skin/surface scratches or such, it's fine. Just cleanse and keep covered.
