I've been told it works on some breeds, but it's mostly mixed hatchery chicks so they can sex them early. I don't think it's reliable with Ameraucanas.
I have a chick who went over an ideal like that: Vision, my then-bind BR chick. We ordered her, along with her 3 siblings Pest, Opheilia, and One-Eyed Bandit (who had a closed eye.) from the local feed store, andshe was the only one who was blind. Mum said she probably wouldn't make it. Wekept giving her water, and over the curse of 2 days, she learned were the water was, nd took small sips. I fed her a few peices of food, but she complained so loudly I stopped. Then, about a week afterwards, both her eyes, along with Banit's, opened fully. When we first got her, Mom named her Vision for good luck.
