My Sumatras!

Really pretty. My DS was interested in these birds after we went to our state 4-H show and the judge told us this is what he raised and showed. He told us that sumatras were supposed to have purple combs. That these birds actually did better and showed better when they were left outside and not cooped up. This is one reason we didn't get them. How do you find their temperment?

The hens are exceptionally sweet....they fly up to my arms to eat out of my hands. Both sexes are very smart. The rooster keeps his distance from me and is not overly friendly but has not shown any aggression to me since he was about 6 weeks old--and a swift back-hand cured that problem--never to be repeated! LOL They do tend to be aggressive with other birds although if raised together, they work out their pecking order quickly. I am going to get some lattice work and put it up between my runs to keep the rooster from trying to fight my cochin & creve roos through the fence....they lay fairly well (for being "ornamental") and they are the only birds of mine that will lay in the hottest part of the summer.

They sure are gorgeous! I just ordered a trio of them and Im hoping to breed them and have a nice flock going. I had one boy in the past and because of him this is one of my favorite breeds!

Wow are they gorgeous! That roo is a stunner! My 6 month old rooster, Frank is getting there, but not quite. He too is finally getting his glorious tail(he lost all of his tail feathers in the brooder to a feather picking Silver Lakenvelder rooster).
Please let me know if you plan on selling any hatching eggs-I'd like to add a few new hens to my pen.

Thanks for clearing that up. I do think they are really pretty. I don't think our roos would like them though.
