My The Porch Chicken Coop 10 Hens In Dekalb County

Here is the latest up date on my The Porch Chicken Coop really all done except for the hardware cloth on all ventilation openings, a 4' X 14 siding on front of nesting boxes. I have to let this wood dry out for a few days then comes the paint or the same stuff I'm going to treat my deck.

looks good?

I know you can't see it but the opening below the window on the right has hardware cloth on it that has been spray painted black might consider putting some type of louvers, vertical or horizontal just have not made my mind yet.

Above a few pieces of hardware cloth to cover the holes

Back panel thinking about putting 9 more holes like the ones in on the doors

another view of back

same just a different angle

Chicken door without my ADOR 1 and this side of coop to excess nesting boxes from inside and for cleaning. Door will have hardware cloth also.

18' X 24" window just need to replace screen with hardware cloth

the other window that need hardware cloth instead of the thin screen thats on there now

These door I need another Lock on it.

see black hardware cloth will add louvers ?????

Temporary legs will either be braced up by these blocks like a brick front lol or just a 4"x4" on a concrete block..

What Coop I don't see a chicken coop view from the main enentrance of my gate. I am putting up a 8 foot wooden gate on both side of my house already have security camera, adding 4 more to cover coop and rest of my yard. Ordered one gallon of BlackJack 57 will use on the roof then i will secure the Union Corrugating Roof Panels for rain run off. I also have to connect the electric in side and the small solar panels just in case of black out. Just received the avian netting from ebay, have not order the electric fence yet and it will be sola power also.

Thousands of bamboo grow in my back yard, 18 years ago I made the grave mistake of planting a very small pot in my far corning and it has taken over. I really wanted to build my coop of it still might build a smaller one just for fun out of bamboo. My roost inside my porch coop will be made of bamboo!

This came out my yard

Looks awesome! You did a great job, it looks like it is going to be a great coop. I am amazed that the bamboo just grows like that. It wouldn't stand a chance here. Course neither do a lot of plants that would be fun to grow! Heck, I can barely get a ripe tomato some years.

At least the commission hasn't said no. There is always hope!

Oh that stuff can be horrible!!! Almost impossible to get rid of it once it's got a hold.

But

Might not make a good roost, it can be slippery, they much prefer a wide flat surface to roost on.
2x4, wide side up, works great for a roost.

Finally the rain has let up and it looks things might dry out a bit... would like to paint my coop and better protect some areas of it from getting wet. So glad it did rain so I can see compromised spots to be fixed up. Oh Since my daughter is a member of FFA she asked if we could use their colors navy blue and gold. FFA colors it will be!!!

So today I worked on my Coop accomplished a lot BlackJack 57 the floor with three coats of the stuff, I also BlackJack 57 the back wall and the three nesting boxes, installed two 5' roost suspended from the roof actually I took aart's advice not to use the bamboo and I painted it

Outside looking in from the egg collecting door

Looking through feeding and watering door at back of Coop, need to reinforce the hardware cloth on the double doors thinking about using nuts and bolts with a larger washers.

Looking in from feeding and watering door facing nesting boxes.

Looking through double doors towards the Chicken Door.

Looking through double doors towards feeding and watering door which is open. The roost are the 2 1/2" timber post sold at the tractor supply store. I need to create some type of latter for them to get up on the roost easily. Still undecided if I will allow the hens to roam freely under roosting bars if I do the coop will loose 5' x 2' of inside space.

This is the back of the Coop I have not covered the ventilation hole yet with hardware cloth not even sure if I want to use hardware cloth lot of ideals running through my mind. I do have some winterizing ideals if i need to coving up a few holes around the Coop depending on what weather dictates. I noticed that I will have to install some type of awnings above the larger openings and from the roof in the front and back of Coop need to keep everything dry. Just a few minor things like install electricity and outside automatic feeding and watering station not sure if i want to use the big PVC piping I've seen online I have a ton of poultry nipples (well 20 of them LOL). I do like Grandpa's feeders and they are made locally in Griffin GA
