My Very First Emergency: Egg Bound? Pictures Included

Sorry she isn't eating or drinking. Hope she will be starved by morning and will eat.

I guess it has been a while and I didn't pay a lot of attention the first time with chicks but I thought it would be weeks or closer to a month before their wing feathers started showing. Guess I am getting old and forgetting things, DUH!! LOL

Sure hope chicken little is better tomorrow. Will have good thoughts all night for her. Keep me informed how she is doing. Deb

Will do, good night

Thank you everyone for your great info on eggbound girls. We were able to save my daughters red pyle old english with the warm water soak, warm blankets and olive oil around the vent.

Also thank you for this site! I just discovered this morn (my bad) that one of my black star is eggbound! I feel so bad as she has been walking funny for about a week! she is close to 3 1/2 yrs old. Her belly is extended with no feathers and is very warm. We have given her two warm baths this morn, used vegetable oil and vaseline on her vent. At first her belly felt soft and I couldn't feel any eggs, but as I was massaging her, I felt a hard lump at the base of her wing. It is an egg. We have massaged her and tryed to move it down but i don't think it moved much. I used vaseline and inserted gloved finger in her vent and a thin yellowish fluid shot out. I continued and a little more liquid came out along with what looked like maybe a cottage cheese consistancy yellow/greenish stuff with a few spots of blood that stuck to my finger. No egg yet. Do you think she is full of infection or could it be a broken egg? I wasn't sure how far to insert my finger. I think it was about and inch or so. I fixed her some feed with yogurt and oystershell, in which she gobbled right down. I put calcium in her water but I don't think she has drank any. We are trying to let her rest for awhile before we try again. She if very alert and actually seemed to enjoy her bath and blow dry. She is in the dog carrier in the house. I covered it with a towel to maybe get her in the mood to try to lay. Is there anymore I can do?

I`m joining the club, my hen is egg bound also

I can see it bulging out her side, so I gave her a warm bath and massaged her a lot. I then gave her some olive oil with a bit of nutmeg down her throat to get things moving. I hope she will be alright

I thought my Hen was egg bound she was pumping her butt up and down like she was straining to poop..or lay an egg...when she walked her back end was down like my ducks. she walked in to the crate where they've been laying eggs and I watched her a few times, ran in the house and looked up egg binding and how to fix- put the water on to boil, got gloves and gel went back outside looked in the crate...no hen just an egg...perfect white little egg...

but I am concerned still and wondered if there is anything else I can do to make sure she has an easier time or do I just watch her ?

I just want to make sure she's ok. I know they might be stressed from the long trip here to their new home but the other two and Scooby Roo seem perfectly fine.

thanks in advance guys.
