my very own micro farm

Came home with more plants yesterday. 3 good size rosemary. 6 small German thyme to add to the two boxes already growing. 2 small spearmint. 6 small sweet basil and 4 spicy globe Basil. 2 six packs of the correct peas to go behind the singled out blueberry and the artichoke. And some daffodils to go around the raspberries since they won't be in protected boxes. I'll try and get most of it planted today. Sooner I finish planting sooner I can start building the condo.
Also havent heard back about the ducks yet.

Chick's first field trip! Set them out in one of my raised beds. They had a blast! It's 55 degrees in Eastern WA today, bizarre. Early spring?

Yay chicks! I love taking the babies for a field trip. Everything is so new to them. And the weather has been so mild on the west coast and they are getting pummeled on the east coast...

Darina: It sounds completely awful, they are getting all of our winter and leaving us with nothing but spring! I'll take it, I hope it lasts. I have a little springy oasis in my spare room, peppers sprouting in a sunny window, seed catalogs strewn everywhere and chicks peeping in a box at my feet. What an abundance of riches! Life is good.

Little chickies are great. I'm so jealous, waiting for a hen to go broody. But with the way the weather has been here, High 70s, im hoping soon. The ducks are looking for places to nest too. Seems like a whole lot of stuff is going to be happening soon.:)

OK. So I talked with littleblu last night and am going to get the ducks in a few hours. Hurray! Also might have a chance to get some black austrolorp chicks from a schoolroom hatch. This will be great since our first loss was our giant black lorp Pattie. And if we get them it looks like the class project will continue with us photo logging them to share with the kids.

Oh, that would be awesome! I have loved the look of the Australorps, but am hesitant to get them. Our neighbor had one last year that went broody 5 or 6 times during the heat of summer, and I don't have a rooster, so I wouldn't want a broody. I felt so bad for her, the neighbor had them in a cramped pen, and their nests were 5 gallons buckets on their sides. Everyday I would check my chickens and see her over there, roasting without hardly eating or drinking. A couple of times I did sneak into his yard and entice her out with treats, and sometimes even fed and watered his chickens if I could tell that they were empty. Thankfully, he no longer has chickens because he realized that he didn't have time to properly care for them.

Cookie and Oreo. And boy are they big. I mean I knew my mallards were on the smaller side but they make my drakes look like a couple of drunken midgets. the dynamic is definitely going to change around here. They seem happy tho splashing and bathing and grooming. I see now tho that I will have to finish the pond soon. 6 ducks fills it up pretty fast especially when they are all moving around.

Still working out the details with the chicks. We miss our big girl for sure and having a few more to replace one never hurts. Lol. We'll see how it all works out.
