MY WORST FEAR CAME TRUE!!

Awwwwwww, I am sorry that happened

.... I have a door that just shuts, like a little latch and it works fine. Nothing ever got in or out.
Do you ever consider getting padlocks?

I live on a farm in north central Minnesota and my coop is with in an old barn that we used to raise sheep in. Now..... It makes no difference whether it has a collar on... or a person's pet if it comes through the fence then into the coop and run you have a legal Right to take action (shoot to kill). The person who then own's the pet is liable for your loss. It is all under the federal farm pertection act. We have 3 fences and we have shot more peoples pets than wild animals all in the name of pertecting my own property and lively hood. Not only that but investigate if their is a lesh law in your township or county. People who think that just because they live "out in the country my dog can run lose" should be educated in the fact that pets cause more loss to farm animals and child attacts than not!!!! If you have children who are out to hunt these dogs then at least give him something that he could defend themselves if need be. Plastic bb's are no match to metal!!! PLEASE TAKE NO CHANCES WITH YOUR FAMILY OR YOUR ANIMALS IT ISN'T WORTH IT!!!!

We have alway's given the owner the benifit of the daut but not the 2nd time and the owner's were forwarned.
We also have it posted at each of our enterence gates.

We have four dogs and they all have collars, tags, shots, and frontline. They all stay within our 4 ft fence with 1 strand electric at 6 inches from the bottom to pervent digging under. Our largest will jump all the fences to chase any critter that don't belong. We have had Great Peryannese and Marama's in the past and they did their job. They do cost alot and ours only lasted 8 yrs which is good for a large working dog, I mean a real working dog that patrols 80 acres day and night. We didn't loose 1 lamb or ewe the hole time we had them. We are temped to get one just for the poultry but are gonna try our old Willie to see how he handles them. He has been in many fights to pertect our two little dogs.

So Sorry for your loss! Take the suggestions others posted and be ready to clobber those dogs when they come back for more. Most likely they will! I too lock my chickens up with combination padlocks at night or if I'm away and only let my chickens free range when I'm home and I can watch and listen out for them. It's not just animals that can mess with chickens. I hate to say it but I lock mine up for people especially young kids who might want to cause trouble. There is nothing like the peace of mind that you have made their hen house like Fort Knox!

Thanks, i have installed locking latches this week and added them to the pop doors also. I have 15 more black copper maran eggs in the bator, I will be spending a lot of hours ,making their coop like fort knox before I put any more birds in it. Been letting my 8 week old welsummers out in the run everyday then locking them up tight at night. Dont really know why but all the dogs seems to be gone or missing. Maybe they got tired of the airsoft bb's. (they do actually kind of sting when they hit you).
