Myshire Farm SSC Hatch šŸ£

Well, I ended up minimally assisting our little stuck nugget who has since wriggled free and is regaining some strength. ā¤ļø At the same time, weā€™ve moved our other 8 to the brooder and they are having lots of fun exploring their new surroundings! The temp and humidity recovered quite quickly, so Iā€™m hoping that more will successfully emerge... šŸ‘’šŸŒ¼šŸ™šŸ»šŸ£

Not the best photos, but have 15 beautiful and healthy babes! Three expired, all of which had issues hatching out. Iā€™ve learned from this hatch (which is my second), that I wonā€™t be assisting again (as hard as it will be to let things take their course).

My hatch rate isnā€™t as good as I hoped it would be, but it is leaps and bounds better than our first go around (where only 2 hatched from 48.) I made the mistake of trusting the incubator temp and humidity readers, which was the reason for the poor outcome.

This time, I had additional readers working, which helped, but I think weā€™re still a bit off, and I discovered some large hot and cold spots within my incubator. Iā€™m hoping to improve the airflow and I have also ordered 2 more thermometers that should work much better than the cheaper Amazon option that I went with for this hatch.

50 eggs went onto this lockdown, and 15 are alive and well in the brooder, currently on their day 20 (with the exception of 1 little fluff muffin who arrived unexpectedly late last night- Yay!)!!

So, as said, not the best hatch rate, but Iā€™m sure itā€™s due to this only being my second incubation, and still needing to iron out some wrinkles on my end. I SO want to learn more and do better. šŸ‘’šŸŒ¼ā˜€ļøšŸ§”

These arenā€™t the best photos, but still worth sharing! Iā€™m so proud of their progress so far! Well done, little chicky babes!

Will post better photos as I snatch them! Who knows? Maybe their will be another who pops a bit late. Iā€™ve read that they can hatch as late as day 23? We shall see! ā˜€ļø

Some additional picks of our hatchlings! šŸ„°šŸ§”šŸ£ *This isnā€™t their brooder. We took these while they were in a bin while we were giving the brooder a cleaning. šŸ§¹šŸ§¼

Do they drink from the waterer or just the bowl? I have big pretzel jugs with nipple waterers, and trying to teach adult birds to use it was like herding cats, maybe if I put one in the brooder like yours they can figure it out before I move them outside.

We put a bowl waterer and the nipple waterer in with them from day 1. They all tended to go for the bowl waterer but it got SO dirty so fast, I ended up taking it out today (they are about 3 days old), and they took from the nipple waterer almost immediately. I think with my next batch Iā€™m going to only put in the nipple waterer. Once one started pecking at it, they all did, so I think if you add one in and take out their dish, they should figure it out pretty quickly! If mine need coxing, I usually just poke at things for a minute or two with a pencil āœļø eraser and they mimic. šŸ™‚ I hope that helps! The nipple option makes thinks SO much cleaner and easier. Mine are from RentaCoop. Good luck!
