I wasnt there when it happened but my parents thought she was eggbound and gave her a warm bath. They said she was so relaxed with her eyes closed then it seemed like she wanted to get out and as they picked her up, she died She also passed either an egg or poop but no shell. They said it smelled terrible.
Sounds like she had an internal infection of some type. She may have started laying internally.. Or building up fluid in her abdominal... But it seems like with her crop and her other issues, some type of internal infection. With out a necropsy it would be hard to pin point. So very sorry.....
I am still just in disbelief. It is just hard when she was my absolute favorite without a doubt. She seemed like the only one with such a personality. I will never even come close to finding another like her. I dont even know what to do with myself.....
Can you shed some light on what to expect from her "sister". I had my only two, debbie and stephanie for 16 months and they were absolutely inseparable. They were never less than a foot away from each other. I never even knew who was on top of the peck order. They would absolutely freak if they werent together.
Now I have 2 new ones that they absolutely hated, still do but have been too sick to care.
What is Stephanie going to be like now? She is twice the size of the new silkies. Will she ever bond with them? Will she understand that Debbie is gone?
I just hate this. I take animal deaths way too hard....
The redness has gone down quite a bit but she still is limping just as much and hasnt been standing on that leg much today
She has been laying on the coop ground a lot the past few days. I dont know if she is mourning or sick but she had 10 feathers around her, all look like they came out clean/not broken. Is she molting, stressed, or what?
She may be going into a moult. I haven't read every single post here but have you checked for lice and mites? Did you give her any vitamins? If not I would certainly recommend it! Hope sbe improves soon.
I havent checked but she had a vet appt last week, would they have seen them looking her over? They did a poop test too, I am not sure if somehow they would show up in that. Where is a common place for them so I can look? And no she hasnt gotten vitamins, what do you suggest for that? She is on corrid at the moment...
Well, I sat her on my lap to check for mites/lice and I would say a good 30 feathers came out! So I am guessing molting? The only weird thing is in all the articles they talk about the order they lose them but all of them are coming out of her thigh area where the feathers are a little more "poofey"
