I live in central New Hampshire...the area is quite rural but there're no official parks nearby

It's a weasel, and it's old and been dead a long time. Your chickens probably pulled it out of the ground and dropped it there.

No, rats don't have big ol' meat-eating canines like that, they have a pair of beaver-like chompers right in front. Rats, like beavers and hamsters, are rodents. This critter is not.

Agree with others that it is a mustelid ie the family that includes skunks, weasels, badgers, mink, and martins. And not fresh either.

My chickens dig up weird stuff all the time. I converted and old garage to their coop. Bits of plastic and a large rubberband. Luckily no skulls...yet.

I agree old and long dead. They scratched it up and left it for you.
