Hello! First off, I'm brand new to BYC and very excited and grateful to have found this wonderful community! I had chickens for a few years in the past, but took some time off after a devastating event which cost me my entire flock in a single day. This spring, after major work to fully secure my property and the run, I decided it's time to start again!
I brought home a mixed flock of 10 (1.5-2.5 weeks old now) including some Whiting true greens/blues, Americaunas, a dark Brahma, two (listed as) Black Copper Marans, and a straight run mottled Houdan, fully prepared for the possibility of a rooster.
Well... it turns out one of my BCM pullets is probably not a BCM... or a pullet. (This photo is from the first week)
This chick has black skin/comb, 5th toes, and is missing the leg feathers. Despite keeping up in size, its tail feathers have yet to even emerge while the other BCM is feathering out well into her body, which is why I'm thinking cockrel.
Here is the mystery chick with some same-age chicks:
The current feathering progress of the BCM pullet:
Researching the skin color and 5th toe leads me to guess silkie mix, but I would love to hear any thoughts from some more experienced chicken identifiers! Thanks in advance, and I look forward to being a part of BYC!
