My son's preschool hatched 9 chicks and since we had been wanting to start a backyard flock anyway, we adopted 3. We were told that the possible breeds were Barred Rock, New Hampshire Red and Arucana. But I am starting to seriously doubt that they knew what they were talking about! One does seem to be a Barred Rock, but the other two, I have no clue. The are 13 days old.

The BR

The other two, 1 solid pale yellow and 1 all black including black feet except for a spot of white under the chin and some white fluff at the bum.

The white one is probably a white leghorn. The Black one could be an Australorp. But they could also be mixes, you will probably have to wait to know for sure what they are.

This hatched today.... Not what I expected at all as the hen looks completely different (no hairy legs like the chick) any idea m&s why chicks have hairy legs and feet???

Chochins and brahmas have feathered legs.. Beautiful hen though!

Both the mother and the father probably carried the feathery leg gene and now the baby has feathered legs.. It sure is adorable by the way!

Wheaton Maran's have feathered legs and your next picture of the hen looks like a wheaton.

Um, cv123 could you please start your own thread?

What they probably meant was that those are the breeds they have in their mixed flock. Most folks who claim to sell Araucanas actually have Easter Eggers and you can get a wide variety of colors out of them.
