Mystery egg

I have had a hen start 2 months earlier than she should have, at only 4 months of age, and she has been treated exactly the same as the others with the same diet and amount of treats. She doesn't want to use the nestbox also, so I gotta make her a blanket cave for her to lay her eggs in.

What breed is she?

She is a silkie, which makes it weirder as they aren't an egg-production breed, which are sometimes known for starting earlier than usual.

I said 4 month early in the vid instead of 2 months early by accident, but here is a vid of her laying in the blanket cave. Pretty dramatic looking, but so far no prolapses and the eggs come out clean with no blood.

I didn’t know her age as I bought her from a friend but was told that she was 2 months when I got her. She started laying 3-4 months later.

That’s good. I had a black silkie who laid an egg a day until she went broody and I rehomed her.

When my silkies get broody, I take them out the nest and plop them outside for the day, it can either break her from broodiness right away, or it takes a week or so of doing this to snap them out of it. They usually start laying again 2-3 days after being snapped out of broodiness if it is a week-long breaking, if they snap out of it the first 1-3 days of it, they continue laying as normal.

Because it is winter, we only get 3-4 eggs max out of our now 7 laying hens, and it being winter also makes things odder with the young pullet laying early.

Normally they start at around 6 to 9 months of age, so she either started a month early or at the minimum time. :)

Someone else laid the egg..If she was pacing and singing the egg song, someone else was in the nest..It is possible she laid two but they would be the same colour and the shell of one might be a bit weaker?...
Thank you so much... that makes perfect sense. For some reason that never crossed my mind. I do only have one nest box in there at this point because I didn’t think I’d need more for at least a few weeks.

Put up another one to help them out...
