Mystery Illness- Bright Green Poop...

My duck was prescribed Baytril this week... she was a Pekin who weighed 3. 48 and was prescribed 100 ml of baytril to be given once a day of 0.9 ml ...she had stopped eating and did eat some mixed greens in her water but eventually wouldn't eat and only drank some. Look for other posts about feeding sick birds. We thought poor Lacey had an infection which we thought was egg Yoke peritonitis due to laying funny eggs for several weeks but she also had an egg inside of her. It turned out the egg was stuck, which we found out when the vet put her under after not laying the egg for 48 hours. So, we have no idea how long the egg was there but that is probably what caused her infection in the first place and killed her. At the end, she was pooping green poop and she stopped eating. The vet said when they stop eating .. only injection antiobiotics may work. I spent 900.00 and she still passed away as she went into cardiac arrest 2 hours after the bad egg was removed. I'm praying your baby will pull through and you can treat what's wrong with her.

Soryy you lost your hen. :hugs

Was your hen 3.48 kilograms or 3.48 pounds? Was the Baytril 100 mg/ml, 5 mg/ml, 2.5 mg/ml or 2.27 mg/ml?

Good question...It doesn't say on the vet papers but I would suspect kilograms as she felt like she weighed more than my little dog who weighs 9 pounds. The Baytril was 100mg/ml.

@casportpony it does seem that the gatorade is perking her up some. I just gave her her second tube of it. Now I'll do another in a couple hours just to be on the safe side. How long after that should I be able to give her a tube of food? And thank you for your help, btw, I appreciate it so much <3

@Momma hen quack I'm so sorry about your girl :'( I thought about egg issues, but I am not sure. I have already given my Tina a week on injectable antibiotics and it didn't do the trick. I felt for an egg and couldn't feel anything. I did also give her multiple Epsom salt baths just in case. She hasn't been laying at all though.....so it still could be the issue...I wasn't sure though if she wasn't laying because she is so sick and underweight...

I had given my Tina her last dose of gatorade around 1:00 am and decided to sleep on the couch a couple hours and then get up and tube some food for her, but sadly she slipped away sometime in the next couple hours :hit

I love having ducks so much, and everything I've read about them says they are hardy creatures when taken care of properly. I think my ducks eat better than I do so I don't know why this is happening or what I'm doing wrong... I know the last two I had die were given to me in poor condition, and not thriving to begin with, so I understand why Smeagol and Gollum didn't do well, but this I don't understand...

I think I'm too sensitive for this :th

I am going to continue to love and care for the rest of my flock fiercely, but this has kind of put me off of getting any more...at least for a while anyway. Tina was one of my first ducks in a group of 3 (she came with Libby, my khaki, and June my black swedish) so this is just devastating to me. She was only a year old in May.

My best guess right now is that she started laying too early and eventually had problems passing an egg and got peritonitis. I checked for an egg and felt nothing but it still seems to me that that's the most plausible.

Anyway, I want to thank everyone for all of your help in these situations. Even though it doesn't always end well, it is comforting to know that there is a collective knowledge base here that is so helpful, and also that you guys just get it. Who else cries over poultry, you know? :hugs
