Some pics look like pink-combed, others look yellow. If it's more pink at the base, then I'd say cockerel. If there's no pink-ing going on, then perhaps a pullet. A beauty either way

Looks like a Speckled Sussex, almost, but those should have white legs. I think you have a male.

That's my first impression. Very likely a cross of some sort, and quite likely a cockerel.

He’s great, I’d love for him/her to stay in the house with me but I don’t trust my dogs.. and I’m not sure I could deal with the poop!
I’m also looking to expand and get some hens I know are girls for some eggs! I’d really love Welsummers or Barnevelders, but will do some research before I bring home anything else.
Yes I’m happy to wait around and see what becomes of my little rescued chicken, it’s a shame you can’t get DNA tests for chickens!!
