Mystery visitor/mystery egg

Hmm, maybe he does have pigeons in his barn where his hens are. This one rolled out of the nest and now he thinks it's a chicken egg!

We have 12 pigeons with two sitting now so I know what those eggs look like. I had quail years ago but I don't remember what kind they were. There eggs were smaller but mayby there are larger quail than I had IDK. Since the young man said his grandfather said is was a chicken egg I would lean more towards that unless of course there never was a grandfather.

That just doesn't make sence.

I know small eggs are hard to hatch, well some are for me. I just hatched some seramas and they were hard to hatch. With my little silkies and suntans there eggs are a little larger but I have a good hatching rate with them.

If it does hatch I'm thinking it can live with my seramas, if it is a chicken.

I've kept japanese quail and never seen eggs like that before.. a similar size but they were mostly speckled and a shade of brown..
not 100% with button quail..

however, a few months ago my silkie layed an egg that looked pretty similar to that.. I was pretty confused for quite a while...

it would be brilliant if that hatches!... the smallest chick ever.. like the verne troyer of the chicken world lol

It's the beginning of an alien invasion. Martians look like silkies. Soon we will all be getting late night visits and and having alien eggs dropped off for our bators. It's a trick!! Don't answer the door!

I will be candeling tonight hopefully with good results. If the egg is developing it will be moved tomorrow to a bator all by its self on which is now being called the "mystery egg mansion."

I am actually a little nervous for the little egg right now. The mystery egg is due on the 7th but the bator its in now, the other eggs are 5 days ahead so hopefully I will have a bunch of new fuzzy butts from those eggs on sunday.

So far no one has showed up to find out if the mystery egg is developing or not.

The little mystery egg is a quitter.

I can't beleive how attached I got to a blame egg.

I'm hoping the young fellow will come back that droped off the mystery egg to check on the progress. Maybe his grandfather will send him to check. If this happens I will get the entire scoop on the breed and of course work out a deal to try to hatch some more.

Thanks for the laughs guys, it was a lot of fun!

Sorry to hear that!

I think we were all hoping it was going to hatch. My Bobwhite quail eggs are white with a pointed end and smaller than Serama eggs - it may have been a Bobwhite?
