So, you plan on eating these guys? Just curious, how much meat do you get from them?
I'll probably eat most of them. I haven't weighed them, but one makes the meat portion of a meal for me. I think most people eat two or three for a meal?

I also eat the eggs. I usually cook 4-5 for the equivalent of a large/extra large chicken egg.

Interesting, thank you. I didn't think it would be much meat but I'm clueless on quail. If you don't mind answering other questions, you just cook them whole, like a cornish game hen or turkey? That would make a neat little package on the plate.

I've cooked them whole and I've cooked them in halves. I've only actually killed and cleaned four so far since I'm fairly new to it, so I'm trying various things. They're really quick to process. My very first time I killed and cleaned 3 in about half an hour.

They're small, so either whole or halves is the way to go, I think. I spatchcock them (remove the spines) when I clean them, so the ribs are easy to remove before cooking. When I've halved them, I removed the wishbone and breast bone too. Once I removed all of the bones and just put the bits of meat into a rice dish with veggies.

Edit: I did a lot of research before choosing quail. I looked at chickens first, but since I live inside city limits, they were too loud and took too much space.

Thanks! I'm looking into getting meat birds, trying to figure out what is best. I have chickens now but not meat chickens, my ladies just provide my family with eggs. Thanks again and good luck!
Here's a dish I made with a whole quail. It might give you an idea of scale.
