Nabiki's SSC hatch

Pics
The tiny yellow chicks (that are about half the size of the rest of them) are able to eat out of the feeder. They do it by climbing inside of it, which is insanely cute (if messy), but they do it. This morning I pulled the feeder out to refill it, and had a chick that wouldn't get out until I pulled it completely out of the brooder.
I have some smaller ones that'll still get inside the long feeder when it's about half empty.
Took some new pictures this morning. There are just too many to do individual pics of them all, so here is a group shot with a few individual pics. You can see how small the yellows are compared to the other chicks.View attachment 1971871 View attachment 1971874 View attachment 1971875 View attachment 1971876 View attachment 1971877
Look at those white wing feathers on that big one! Nice feathering out on all of them, what's the temp of your brooder floor? Looks like it's gonna be alot of silver or silver combinations in your batch.
I entered this in the flapping fowl contest. It was a rare catch from this mornings pictures.

That's an awesome picture. Wish I'd had the camera on when one flew out of the brooder onto my head yesterday while I was trying to get to the feeder!
Here's a dish I made with a whole quail. It might give you an idea of scale.View attachment 1971945
O. M. G. That looks sooooo good! I know what I'm cooking next time I butcher. How did you cook it?
Look at those feathers! How old are they?
I think I need to lower the heat on mine already.
I was thinking the same thing about mine. The ambient temperature where the quail are now is about 50°..... they'll hafta snuggle a bit if it gets chilly & fill out with their feathers bc I don't know how warm those heat lamps will make it when the temp drops further.

There should be a lot of silver/silver combos since it's the SSC (Silver Schofield Collection). There may be a few oddballs in there just because of the genetics, but I'm really glad I got these.

The brooder's hot spot is anywhere from 85-95 degrees depending on the temp inside my house, but the cold area is around 65-70 degrees. I kept it warmer when they were first put into the brooder, but I lower the temps fairly quickly since they seem to start getting hot in a week or less at the 95+ range.

I posted the recipe in this thread.

I have mine down to 80 in the hot spot and it's about 70ish on the other side.
I'm ready to drop the heat even more already because these dummies are going out soon.

Today's chick pic.
