Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Which hatchery?  I got my original EE from Meyers and all laid colored eggs (mostly green but a few blueish)

The cockerels are from Ideal. There's one that I really like but he doesn't have a strong beard or muff and his legs aren't near as dark as the others so I probably wouldn't use him but I love his coloring.

Mine are always nearly 6 months or older before they start crowing, then they aren't really vocal like others, only crowing occasionally.
Mine begin crowing about 5 or 6 months...(with an occasional bird that starts at about 4.5 months) These cockerels are nearly always quite aggressive sexually but I'm happy to say, I rarely have a cockerel/cock that is so aggressive to other males that he must be removed. They will skirmish for a few seconds and walk stiff-legged for a while, trying to pretend they got the better of their opponent...no matter the actual 'score card results'.

One downside to my especially friendly cocks (would be to some), once they learn they can crow...they do! This would drive some insane but since I've already arrived, it doesn't bother me. Actually, they crow 'round the clock...night and day.

Oh, while my cocks are 'chicken friendly', many can be a bit over the top with people. My son has a friend who shows up here frequently to help him and, being farm raised, can deal with the hateful birds but she often brings her two small children and Ol' Dad is roped into babysitting...That's ok for a while because she's a great helper to my son on weekends and evenings but she is a school teacher by day.

I'm going to proffer the notion that I will pay for 'child care' rather than be strapped with these beautiful little boys...miserable little ********.!!!

NOTE: For those who may have tried to email me...I have been experiencing a minor malfunction for the past week and I have been too trifling to take 10 or 20 minutes to correct the issue.

I will get 'er done by this evening and respond to any who may have tried to contact me. Sorry for any inconvenience.

SLIPSWIFE Last summer I bought Cream Legbar pair. The hen is rather nice and pretty but I hated the rooster so he went into the pot. I thought that he was ugly and he CROWED WITHOUT TAKING A BREAK ! UGH I could to take it and no one around here was interested in buying CL so I did not care. Of course as soon as I ate him, someone wrote asking about CL. Good luck with yours.

KASSAUNDRA and DDD, I am thinking of taking the train east so I can visit and steal some babies !!!

He maybe around only long enough to get a few chicks out of him then...we've had one rooster that would leave us alone but crowed all of the time and another that rarely crowed but was EVIL when we went into the yard...I'm good with no rooster, but then I can't hatch chicks!

Maybe age has something to do with the eager beaver attitude ? But I am not willing to take that chance. The only rooster that I want around is a NN who seldom crows. I had a beautiful one once, very colorful partridge with nice calm attitude. But I also had a Silver EE and a game rooster at the same time Guess who was top dog ? But my dog hated that little rooster and hunted him until he won.
