I think it sounds cool what you are doing. I'm sure it does take time. I think it's worth it. I think the Naked Neck chickens are fascinating, their looks, their history and the fact that they are rare. And the way some people are just like ewww! what is that?
My son has gotten more excited talking about breeding NN than entering in the shows. Not a lot of the people like the NN. My husband doesn't like them because they are not a very good breed for competing with, they never win the best of the whole show, but we have fun with them.
Good luck with your project draye!
Take Care, Cher
Actually one white NN roo managed to win either a best of show or pretty close to it! I think it was maybe last year or two?
Struggling to remember the breeder's name.. maybe it is Ed Haworth(spelling) of Oklahoma? Anybody remember?
I know he has been a long time breeder of NN and if you ever find a contact for him, he probably is an excellent source or would be far better help in locating good show stock... He hangs with 'serious show folk' I think but is definitely one of the guys serious about showing and breeding for it.
I do completely understand the whole competition thing though... with just 5 entries, Best of Breed does not mean very much.
But, it would be nice if there was a pool of show bred stock that's kept going. Sometimes I feel guilty about not having standard bred stock here.
