Naked Neck/Turken Thread

I agree that mixed is a good thing! I've actually left other threads because the people there are so uptight about type and breed standards and a little bit of color being off. A lot of them have special colors of this or that...what they don't realize is that people MIXED breeds to get all the new and expensive breeds and colors.

I'm glad all you NN lovers are just happy to have cute chickens.

I love the variety in appearances of the NNs. I can identify each one of them without having to check leg bands or anything. And quite frankly, it's fun to interbreed with other chicken varieties just to see what comes out of it. I plan to cross my Australorps, Bielefelders, Ameraucanas, Easter Eggers, Silkies, Barred Rocks and maybe even my Dorkings with my NNs.

I discovered today that one of my NNs lays olive green eggs! I'm so happy!

I also came really close to buying nearly a dozen NN pullets. I had to go to the feed store today and they had two cages of NNs that they just can't seem to sell. I was instantly in love. If not for my son pestering me about already having 40+ chickens and two dozen ready to hatch any day now....*sigh*....they were so cute!!!!

Congrats on egg color!

Just like my family, many fanciers tend to 'collect' birds. They may be found at odd times and places...Perhaps you should give them another looking over...you just might find a few that will fit right in...always room for a few

Congrats! Curious- what comb does she have?

Were the pullets hatchery stock? Some of them could be pretty fair meat type or layers... also could be useful for cleaning up legs if there are some leg feathers floating around still.

Just go back to look and make sure they are still doing okay (just don't bring that pesky son w/ you this time)

All of my NNs came from two breeders in different parts of the country. I'm not sure which one is laying the green eggs, but all of my NNs have single combs. One of the green egg "suspects" has feathered shanks and is VERY fluffy, and the other hatched looking like a chipmunk (like an Easter Egger or Ameraucana). So far the other two that are laying are giving me a golden brown egg, and a pinky-brown egg.

Suspect #1 - "Duckie"

Suspect #2 - "Jazz"

These photos were taken about 1-2 weeks ago and the combs on both of these girls have increased significantly in height since then.

As far as the feed store chicks are concerned...I told my husband about them last night and HE suggested that I check back in a few days to see if they're still having problems selling the birds. "You could be a NN Turken sanctuary for unloved chicks." Is it any wonder I love this man? He totally supports my addiction.
