Naked Neck/Turken Thread

A lady close to me has NN chicks! They're straight run, any tips on sexing them? They were hatched May 30.

A little young yet. Although if I had them here a was able to observe them I probably could tell you pretty close. I'm usually about 75% right most if the time.

My cockerels are more curious and obnoxious while the pullets are shy. That is what I usually go by when they are less than 2 weeks old. It isn't very scientific though. At two to three weeks the combs on the cockerels will start to get big and red. Chicks with pea combs will take a couple weeks longer to sex. My pea-combed boys are six weeks and are finally looking like boys, although they have been acting like it for weeks.

Any one raise nn/white leghorns? I have 3 young ones an am wondering what color eggs they lay

I've never owned anything like that but I think a good guess would be between white to light cream color...depending upon what might be in your NN line.

Others may think or KNOW differently.

Thanks. I was hoping for some eggs with color. I incubated some white leghorn an some nn eggs my roo is nn but only eggs that hatched was from the white leghorn. So I havesome reel pretty white nn chickens.. I sell eggs an most people like to buy brown or colored better than white

A new pair if Naked Necks that I got today.

Nice pair returning to me from some if my original stock.

All of my NNs came from two breeders in different parts of the country. I'm not sure which one is laying the green eggs, but all of my NNs have single combs. One of the green egg "suspects" has feathered shanks and is VERY fluffy, and the other hatched looking like a chipmunk (like an Easter Egger or Ameraucana). So far the other two that are laying are giving me a golden brown egg, and a pinky-brown egg.

Suspect #1 - "Duckie"

uspect #2 - "Jazz"

These photos were taken about 1-2 weeks ago and the combs on both of these girls have increased significantly in height since then.

As far as the feed store chicks are concerned...I told my husband about them last night and HE suggested that I check back in a few days to see if they're still having problems selling the birds. "You could be a NN Turken sanctuary for unloved chicks." Is it any wonder I love this man? He totally supports my addiction.

Pretty cool to see another single comb colored egger NN besides my stock. I had mine for years- kept specifically for this novelty. Probably not much of one now, with the presence of legbars and isbars. The bad thing as you noted- not easy to tell which hen is laying the colored eggs lol

Great catch, that one! ;)

Anybody in Florida a fan of mottled NN?  In another thread this came up:

http://gainesville.craigslist.org/grd/5013043176.html

Hens seem to be hatchery stock but the rooster in picture seems to be crossed with fighting game.  Pretty but maybe not the best for a peaceful flock..

Good find Kev. I was just discussing this with Alohachickens in the Aloha thread.

Is that hen really mottled? She looks kind if like a buff barred to me in the picture.

I'd sure like to have her and really find out if it is. Would totally put me a head in my Aloha Naked Necks.
