My cockerels are more curious and obnoxious while the pullets are shy. That is what I usually go by when they are less than 2 weeks old. It isn't very scientific though. At two to three weeks the combs on the cockerels will start to get big and red. Chicks with pea combs will take a couple weeks longer to sex. My pea-combed boys are six weeks and are finally looking like boys, although they have been acting like it for weeks.A lady close to me has NN chicks! They're straight run, any tips on sexing them? Any one raise nn/white leghorns? I have 3 young ones an am wondering what color eggs they lay
All of my NNs came from two breeders in different parts of the country. I'm not sure which one is laying the green eggs, but all of my NNs have single combs. One of the green egg "suspects" has feathered shanks and is VERY fluffy, and the other hatched looking like a chipmunk (like an Easter Egger or Ameraucana). So far the other two that are laying are giving me a golden brown egg, and a pinky-brown egg.
Suspect #1 - "Duckie"
uspect #2 - "Jazz"
These photos were taken about 1-2 weeks ago and the combs on both of these girls have increased significantly in height since then.
As far as the feed store chicks are concerned...I told my husband about them last night and HE suggested that I check back in a few days to see if they're still having problems selling the birds. "You could be a NN Turken sanctuary for unloved chicks." Is it any wonder I love this man? He totally supports my addiction.![]()

Anybody in Florida a fan of mottled NN? In another thread this came up:

Hens seem to be hatchery stock but the rooster in picture seems to be crossed with fighting game. Pretty but maybe not the best for a peaceful flock..
